HYBE, a dominant player in the K-Pop industry, has typically been linked to exceptional chart performance and consistent achievements. Recently, however, fans and online users have noticed something peculiar: no HYBE artists made it onto Melon’s Top 100, South Korea’s premier music ranking.
On October 24, a netizen shared a screenshot of the Melon Top 100, showcasing top contenders like BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Jennie, along with the group aespa and soloist Karina from the same group. Additionally, JYP Entertainment’s rock-pop group DAY6 also appeared among the top spots. The original poster expressed approval of the chart’s lineup, which prompted discussions among users regarding the conspicuous absence of artists from HYBE.
Notably, the majority of artists currently leading the Top 100 hailed from South Korea’s “Big 3″entertainment companies: YG Entertainment (home to Jennie and Rosé), SM Entertainment (featuring aespa and Karina), and JYP Entertainment (with DAY6). While some tracks listed were newly released, others like DAY6’s “Happy,”which had been available since March, underscored HYBE’s lack of presence.
This situation has led many commenters to embrace the shift, appreciating the return of the Big 3 to the charts and voicing a mix of nostalgia and contentment regarding HYBE’s apparent decline. The post swiftly attracted comments, including:
- “The Big 3 are back together.”
- “This is really pleasing.”
- “It seems like HYBE is experiencing a downturn.”
- “Good to see.”
- “Wow! This highlights the fundamentals.”
- “I hope they struggle even more.”
- “These agencies are the true pioneers.”
The discussion around the absence of HYBE artists from the charts coincides with increased scrutiny of the agency, particularly after recent allegations surfaced during a National Assembly audit that implicated the organization in negative media tactics, fostering public interest in HYBE’s operations.
