On June 10th, C9 Entertainment’s girl group Cignature made their comeback with the release of their 5th EP album “Sweetie but Saltie”and a music video for their title track “Poongdung”.
The music video was shot with a summer theme to capture the high energy of the song, creating a refreshing atmosphere reminiscent of a summer party. Despite this, some netizens who watched the MV raised concerns about certain scenes.
It was noted by certain individuals that the MV contained scenes that heavily sexualized Cignature and their outfits were deemed too revealing.
Some Cignature fans from around the world posted edited videos on X (previously known as Twitter) and expressed their disappointment with the girl group’s management for sexualizing the members with their summer-themed concept. They also highlighted the discomfort shown by the members while wearing bikinis.
it’s not just “let women wear what they want” it’s that you can see members trying to cover their chests, a whole shot of their crotch, using shots of their shoulders that don’t show their clothes, using an angle that looks down when they’re wearing the bikinis… use your brain https://t.co/JdMLYgR1MS

Despite not being the first instance, Cignature has faced sexualization in the past. In a previous year, member Jeewon made an appearance on a variety show where the hosts discussed her performance at the Waterbomb summer music festival. The show also displayed images from her fancams, which solely focused on her chest. Jeewon could only respond with an uncomfortable smile.
