On May 13 in the afternoon, a post titled “100,000 YouTube viewers voted on the images of ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM”was shared on the Korean forum “theqoo”. In just a few hours, the post garnered more than 40,000 views and nearly 400 comments, demonstrating significant interest from the public.
Based on this subject, a survey conducted on the video platform YouTube by 100,000 individuals revealed that 87% of them thought that ILLIT’s public perception cannot be redeemed, whereas the corresponding number for LE SSERAFIM is 89%.
This can most likely be attributed to the ongoing copying dispute between ILLIT and NewJeans, as well as LE SSERAFIM’s previous statements and lack of proficiency in live singing during recent shows. Furthermore, the HYBE-ADOR conflict and allegations of NewJeans being unfairly treated in comparison to ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM have only added fuel to the fire.
Despite the incredibly lopsided outcome, Korean netizens on theqoo unanimously express their strong agreement. Despite the current criticism towards both groups, many are confident that their music will continue to gain widespread popularity.
The following are a few of their remarks:
- BIGBANG’s public image was also similar, yet the song was still enjoyed by all.
- Despite not being a fan of HYBE, I believe that their success should not be hindered by their public image. They have a strong following of overseas fans, and ultimately, the individuals who contribute to their sales will not be affected by their perception.
- Some mentioned BIGBANG, but if you want to overcome bad public images, you need to have good skills to back it. That’s not the case for these groups
- HYBE needs to let go of NewJeans already
