There are allegations that LE SSERAFIM member Kim Chaewon disrespected her fans in her recent cover, but there are doubts among some people about the validity of these claims.
On June 18, 2024, Kim Chaewon delighted fans by sharing her cover of Ariana Grande’s “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).”However, a post titled “LE SSERAFIM Kim Chaewon’s cover song criticized by fans”emerged on a South Korean online community forum soon after the cover was released.

In the post, the author shared images of Kim Chaewon’s cover and provided lyrics in both English and Korean. They implied that the song’s lyrics were a subtle reference to fans who had abandoned LE SSERAFIM amidst their multiple scandals.
“Did they write, “Is she demanding that we bury their recent scandals and start supporting her once more? The members continue to clash with their fans.”
Korean netizens quickly swarmed to the comments section in defense of Kim Chaewon. They argued that the author was overanalyzing the cover and that this was an excessive interpretation. Some also highlighted that the song revolves around a breakup and criticized the author for omitting the part where she sings the chorus in their international release.
Several comments stated,

Why do you think female celebrities, who are living their best lives, would take time out of their day to attack you? They probably care less about you as if you were a bug. You guys act out way too much.”

Earlier, LE SSERAFIM faced criticism for their Coachella shows in April. Although their performance and charm received acclaim from global publications, Korean netizens criticized their unsteady vocals and perceived lack of energy towards the end of the set.
Despite facing criticism, Kim Chaewon faced further backlash after posting a photo of Doja Cat, who was also a performer at Coachella. Netizens were quick to accuse the idol of using the photo as a subtle response to the backlash she was receiving. In the picture, Doja Cat can be seen raising her middle finger.

Upon being alerted, Kim Chaewon promptly removed the post from her Story.
