SM Entertainment has just released two sets of teaser photos for Red Velvet’s highly anticipated 10th debut anniversary comeback album, “COSMIC”. These teasers showcase the group in two different concepts: princesses and sailors.
Despite the sailor concept receiving enthusiastic cheers and compliments, the release of the princess teasers sparked controversy. Red Velvet members showcased their goddess-like visuals in fancy dresses against a dreamy background, but Joy’s individual photos left many fans unable to recognize her. This was due to the new makeup style and excessive edits by SM, which made Joy appear unfamiliar.
There were some who mistakenly identified Joy as other idols, including (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon & Soojin, KISS OF LIFE’s Belle, IVE’s Jang Won-young, NMIXX’s Sullyoon, and others. Along with comments about Joy’s teasers, there were also complaints about Wendy’s teasers, with some claiming her face was not recognized.
Netizens pointed out, “Her lips and hairstyle reminded me of Soyeon, although her eyes are not as sharp. However, didn’t Joy undergo eye surgery recently? That may explain why some people are having trouble recognizing her.”Others commented, “At first, I thought she was former (G)I-DLE member Soojin.”Some also mentioned, “She has a resemblance to Sullyoon and Wonyoung.”
Despite their numerous edits, SM is also receiving criticism from Red Velvet for their inadequate promotion of the group’s 10th debut anniversary album. This includes announcing the comeback late, using a simple album cover design, and not releasing a special version for the anniversary album, unlike their previous comebacks.
