On May 13, Kim Eunju and Black Q, performance directors at NewJeans, expressed their frustration by accusing ILLIT of plagiarizing a dance from one of NewJeans’ commercials. This further fueled the ongoing accusations of ILLIT copying from NewJeans.
In her Instagram post, Kim Eunju expressed her frustration by saying, “I can’t believe it! (copying) They even used the same choreography from a CF? I’ve been patient for a while, but claiming it’s just a coincidence is too much, isn’t it? Similarities can happen, but when referencing, it’s important to make some changes. This is simply copying.”

At the same time, Black Q also conveyed their disappointment, stating, “Impossible! I have been holding back these thoughts for a while now, but it is unbelievable that even a CF choreography is not exempt. The journey for one’s hard work to be showcased to the public is not a simple one…”
The posts discussed the similarities between the dance in ILLIT’s “Lucky Girl Syndrome”and the choreography used by NewJeans in a fast-food brand commercial.
Following the posts by Kim Eunju and Black Q, comparison videos quickly circulated on social media. The majority of netizens concurred with the evaluations of the two renowned choreographers, as they clearly recognized ILLIT’s incorporation of NewJeans’ previous dance. It was evident that the formations and main chorus moves were replicated precisely.
Despite this, certain netizens proposed the idea that the choreographers of NewJeans could potentially be taking inspiration from another well-known idol.
Specifically, the hand movement of NewJeans in the CF has been compared to a similar movement performed by BLACKPINK’s Lisa in her solo song, “Money.”However, there are those who argue that Lisa’s move in “Money”is only slightly similar to NewJeans’, whereas ILLIT’s is an exact replica, making the situation distinct.
