New Asus ROG Ally AMD Driver Update Brings Huge Performance Boost

The latest software update for the Asus ROG Ally has significantly improved its performance, thanks to the addition of AMD Fluid Motion Frames support.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames was introduced in January 2024 as an effort by the company to provide a performance enhancement for frame generation similar to Nvidia’s DLSS 3.

The Asus ROG Ally’s Z1 and Z1 Extreme are equipped with ideal integrated graphics cards that can potentially take advantage of this feature. Recently, on April 25, 2024, Asus released an update that enables this feature on the device.

In a recent blog post, Asus announced that the ROG Ally will now support AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF). The iGPU driver and ACSE update, available tomorrow (April 25th), will include all the necessary components to utilize this new feature.

Once the graphics card and Armoury Crate SE update are installed by ROG Ally users, they will have access to additional information on Fluid Motion Frames through the app’s real-time game monitor.

One significant advantage of AMD Fluid Motion Frames is that it is integrated into the driver, eliminating the need for game developers to make any modifications to their game in order to utilize the improved performance.

The actual performance variation with AFMF is currently undetermined as the update is currently in the process of being rolled out. While AMD Fluid Motion Frames may appear promising in theory, the company advises its use only with games that already achieve a 60 fps rate. However, it is compatible with all games, regardless of their FPS rate, without the feature enabled.
