New Casting for Knives Out 3 Debunks Major Fan Theory

The addition of the latest star to Knives Out 3 confirms the demise of the sequel’s biggest fan theory, as the actor is now part of a major franchise.

Every day, more names are being added to the Knives Out 3 cast list. While some have been received with excitement by fans of the Rian Johnson mystery series, others have not been as well received. Nevertheless, the most recent announcement has been widely celebrated, as it brings Josh Brolin on board for the latest whodunnit adventure.

Nevertheless, Brolin’s selection as the actor for the role does put an end to the prominent fan theory that has been circulating about the upcoming film. Since the beginning, there has been much speculation among fans, with many suggesting that it would be simple to deduce the identity of the killer in Johnson’s latest story: it would most likely be the prominent Marvel star among the cast.

This paragraph references two previous films, Knives Out and Glass Onion. In Knives Out, the culprit was Chris Evans, who played Ransom, a wealthy and vengeful heir. In Glass Onion, the killer was Edward Norton’s character Miles Bron, the villainous creator of a technology company. Interestingly, both Evans and Norton are well-known for their roles in Marvel movies.

Evans portrayed Captain America for an extended period, while Norton took on the role of the Hulk in the pre-MCU films. Brolin, on the other hand, famously portrayed Thanos, widely considered one of the greatest supervillains in history. Based on this, it would make sense for him to eventually be revealed as the murderer in Knives Out 3. However, there is a complication, as he is not the only suspect in the case.

It is common knowledge for those following the casting announcements for Knives Out 3 (titled Wake Up Dead Man) that Jeremy Renner had been previously added to the cast. This means that Brolin, who is recognized for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel superhero films, is the second major Marvel actor to join the cast. As a result, fans believe that this disproves the theory entirely.

According to one X account, the involvement of two MCU actors makes it more difficult to determine the identity of the killer.

“Another person suggested that the best way to divert the killer’s attention is to cast only actors who have previously worked with Marvel in the movie.”

A third person commented on the post, speculating, “Since two Marvel actors are involved, the villain must be either Josh or Jeremy.”

“According to a fourth person, the twist in the upcoming movie will involve determining which MCU actor is actually the villain – Brolin or Renner.”

Even though the Knives Out trilogy has broken the pattern before, it is worth noting that those who have been paying close attention would be aware of this. For instance, in Glass Onion, Norton was accused of being the killer, despite the fact that Dave Bautista (known for his role as Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) was part of the cast. In fact, Bautista’s character was the first one to be killed. However, the theory still holds true if you take into account that Drax was not a major character in the Marvel universe.

Production for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will commence in June 2024. For additional options, explore the top new movies available for streaming or discover the latest TV shows to watch this month.
