There is a plethora of skilled artists in the Pokemon community who are always creating unique interpretations of beloved video games, popular characters, and even inventing their own Fakemon designs.
Despite the common expectation for Pokemon art to utilize standard designs, such as portraying Pikachu as an electric mouse with yellow fur and lightning powers, a recent community piece has defied this tradition.
The talented illustrator, @an_artist_astray, on Instagram showcased their unique interpretations of fan-favorite Pokemon Vileplume, Eiscue, and Aurorus, with the tagline “New Pokemon, Old Names”. These Fakemon were featured by creator @magikdex and their work was shared on Instagram.
Eiscue, a Pokemon known for its ice cube headgear, has undergone a transformation to become a fluffy Saint Bernard. This new version of Eiscue has been given the nickname “Rescue Dog”and its design is heavily inspired by the original Pokemon’s name, perfectly fitting its theme as a mountain rescue pup.
Upon viewing the original artist’s work, Pokemon fans were thoroughly impressed and did not hesitate to show their appreciation by praising their creative interpretations and highlighting their personal favorites. It was evident that many of these fans were longtime followers of the art style, as one enthusiastic viewer exclaimed, “I am absolutely in love with this series! It’s just so much fun!”
Despite the fact that these designs are highly praised by fans, one supporter expressed disappointment in the fact that they are unlikely to be featured in a contemporary Pokemon game. They stated, “It’s frustrating that Pokemon doesn’t incorporate fantastic designs like these.”
A Pokemon enthusiast shared their opinions on every design, praising Vileplume as “sick” , Eiscue as “righteous” , and Aurorus as “ferocious” . Eiscue received the most attention in the comments, as it was the clear fan favorite and considered a significant improvement from the original creature.
As a fan, it is always thrilling to witness creative interpretations of familiar Pokemon. I am eagerly anticipating how this will be reflected in the next mainline installment of the series.
