New Japanese Invention Protects Your Liver and Requires Patience: The Beer Glass

A Japanese brewery has created a new beer glass that is intentionally designed to be difficult to drink from, but it will ultimately be beneficial for your liver.

YO-HO Brewing, a well-known craft beer brewery in Japan, has developed a clever glass that can aid in the processing of alcohol by your liver and potentially reduce any harm.

The Yukkuri Beer Glass, also known as The Slow Pace Glass in English, will certainly draw eyes with its distinct and stylish appearance, reminiscent of an hourglass.

Despite its fancy appearance, the glass serves a functional purpose as well – it is intentionally designed to be challenging to drink from, encouraging you to savor and drink your beer at a slower pace.

The Yukkuri Beer Glass has been designed to resemble an hourglass.

Although the laborious glass may initially appear to be a Chindōgu, a Japanese term for unconventional inventions with limited practicality, the Yukkuri Beer Glass actually offers noteworthy health advantages.

This is due to the fact that liver cells perish whenever the organ is compelled to process alcohol. Although new cells have the potential to form, excessive alcohol consumption can hinder their regenerative capabilities.

Consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, at a frequent rate and in a rapid manner, can lead to long-lasting harm as the alcohol triggers swelling and inflammation, resulting in scarring and cirrhosis of the liver. This advanced stage of alcoholic liver disease is irreversible.

So, if you like to unwind with a cold beer (or two) after a long day, the Yukkuri Beer Glass aims to minimize any potential long-term harm. By promoting slow drinking, your liver has a chance to effectively process the alcohol consumption.

To successfully consume your drink, it is important to have patience while using the glass. This applies to both drinking and pouring, as the beer will slowly make its way down to the lower section. This section may pose a challenge when trying to finish your drink.

According to SoraNews24, the experience of trying to drink from the lower half of the beer glass is described as “brutal”due to the narrow section in the center that only allows for “tiny trickles”to pass. This leads to a significantly longer time to finish the drink, as it takes approximately three times longer than usual.

Despite this, the Yukkuri Beer Glass could potentially prevent future health issues. If you are interested in trying it, you must participate in a lottery held by Yona Yona Ale, where 10 lucky winners will have the chance to purchase the glass for 9,800 yen (equivalent to $63.6 USD).
