McDonald’s unveiled a significant modification to the McFlurry, incorporating it into a new cup without a lid.
The McFlurry is one of McDonald’s most well-known menu items, alongside its McNuggets, Big Mac, and McChicken.
For decades, the soft-serve ice cream has been packaged in a cup with a plastic lid and mixed with popular ingredients such as Oreo and M&M candies.
On September 4, 2024, McDonald’s announced a major update to its McFlurry by introducing a new cup design, as reported by the company’s website.
Starting on September 10, 2024, the chain will be getting rid of the iconic plastic, dome-shaped lid that is commonly associated with the McFlurry. Instead, the frozen dessert will be served in a cardboard cup with four flaps to cover the opening.
According to Michael Gonda, SVP, Chief Impact Officer of North America for McDonald’s, packaging changes such as this are significant. This not only offers a fresh and enjoyable experience for our American customers with the McFlurry, but it also brings us closer to fulfilling our commitments towards packaging and waste reduction.
This alteration was implemented following the company’s decision to discontinue the use of the McFlurry plastic spoon, which previously served as both a mixing tool and a machine attachment. It has since been substituted with a smaller, black spoon.
McDonald’s is introducing a new smaller-sized treat called the Mini McFlurry, in addition to their new packaging. This option is perfect for those who want something sweet while keeping an eye on their budget or calorie intake.
This is the most recent addition to the McDonald’s menu in the past few weeks. The highly sought-after Chicken Big Mac will finally be available in the United States by the end of 2024.
The Big Arch burger was also introduced, although it is currently only offered in Canada and a few other countries at the time of writing. This mouthwatering creation includes two beef patties, a unique sauce, crispy onions, and other delicious toppings.
