Unofficial spoilers for the upcoming Bloomburrow set have leaked early, revealing new MTG cards Ral, Crackling Wit, and Parting Gust. These exciting discoveries are sure to generate buzz among fans.
The upcoming Magic: The Gathering sets for 2024 have experienced a significant amount of leaks, particularly with Modern Horizons 3. This set had a majority of its cards leaked in advance, along with a few spoilers for Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed. However, Bloomburrow has managed to avoid most of the leaks, aside from an early reveal of one of its mechanics due to an advertising mishap.
If these leaks can be trusted, there are some exciting changes on the horizon. Two previously unreleased cards from Bloomburrow have been discovered, one featuring a beloved Planeswalker in a unexpected new form, and another introducing a never-before-seen mechanic exclusive to the set.
It should be emphasized that the cards allegedly leaked from the Bloomburrow set have not yet been verified by official sources. The low quality of the images also raises suspicions (although this was not a problem for Assassin’s Creed). We will continue to provide updates on the validity of these leaks as we near the August 2 release date for Bloomburrow.
[BLB] Leaks from rumors – Ral, Crackling Wit & Parting Gust byu/Yawgmothlives inmagicTCG
After the release of Modern Horizons 3, the much-loved Planeswalker Ral Zarek gained popularity, causing the price of the Ral, Monsoon Mage flip-walker to rise as spellslinger players eagerly sought out its potent abilities.
The same fans will be ecstatic to witness Ral’s rapid comeback in Bloomburrow, where the storm mage is sporting a significantly altered appearance. Despite the low quality of the image, Wizards has already revealed Ral’s transformation into an otter during his visit to this creature-filled realm.
There has been a notable resurgence in Storm’s popularity in MTG as of late, largely attributed to the release of Outlaws of Thunder Junction and Universes Beyond: Fallout. The addition of strong Storm cards like the Ral Planeswalker, Radstorm and Crackling Spellslinger has caused a stir in the Magic community, with the powerful combo ability making waves in popular decks like Ruby Storm.
Ral, the witty and electric Planeswalker, is determined to propel Storm into the forefront. This new addition to the Izzet guild utilizes its first two loyalty abilities to stay true to the classic Izzet style – generating Creatures with Prowess and drawing cards. However, it is the card’s passive and ultimate abilities that truly shine.
In addition to receiving counters from its +1 ability, Ral, Crackling Wit also gains a loyalty counter whenever its controller casts a noncreature spell. This makes Ral a valuable addition to Storm decks, as it quickly accumulates a large number of counters.
The final ability of Ral, Crackling Wit is even more focused on its theme, allowing its controller to draw three cards and receive an emblem that bestows Storm on all of their Instant and Sorcery spells. This powerful effect is expected to greatly increase the value of this card upon the release of Bloomburrow.
Parting Gust is an Instant spell that costs WW to cast and has the ability to exile a non-token Creature. When casting, you have the option to utilize the new Gift mechanic to give your opponent a 1/1 token Creature in its place. If the Gift is not offered, the exiled Creature will come back with an extra +1/+1 counter during its owner’s next end step.
The mechanic offers the player an intriguing decision. They can choose to grant their opponent a minor tradeoff in exchange for the effect, similar to the permanent removal and replacement mechanics seen in classics such as Beast Within.
On the other hand, the removal is only temporary, and the opponent’s Creature will come back soon, even stronger than before. However, during this time, their field may be vulnerable to attacks.
Gift brings a much-needed element of player choice to the game by allowing players to decide between permanent or temporary removal depending on what best suits them in the moment. This ability follows in the footsteps of Outlaws of Thunder Junction’s Spree, which was highly favored for its inclusion of choice during spell casting. As such, Gift is expected to be just as well-received.
The addition of Gift as a cost mechanic is an exciting development that adds a new level of social interaction to the game. Demonstrate, a highly enjoyable and flavorful mechanic introduced in the Strixhaven set, has unfortunately been underutilized. Therefore, it is refreshing to see a similar mechanic being introduced in Bloomburrow. The mere presence of Gift in these leaks gives us hope that they will indeed turn out to be true.
