Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree introduces several new NPCs that you will encounter on your journey through the Shadow Lands. We have already encountered numerous NPCs during our travels through the dark expanses of the expansion.
NPCs are integral to the world of Elden Ring, just as they are in the other Souls games. Although some NPCs may only offer minor tasks, others hold significant importance to the overarching narrative. Building relationships with these characters can result in unique rewards and even unlock different endings.
For example, completing Roderika’s quest in the base game allows you to level up Spirit Ashes, while Ranni’s questline presents the chance to not only unlock a different ending, but also completely alter your journey.
In both Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree, it is important for players to see the stories of NPCs through rather than killing them, as this can have negative consequences.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree features new NPCs called Followers of Miquella.
Every new NPC in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Throughout our journey in Shadow of the Erdtree, we have come across a diverse array of intriguing NPCs. Here are a few of the vibrant personalities we have encountered thus far. Naturally, certain NPCs have been excluded to avoid revealing major plot points, and it is possible that there are still more NPCs within the world that we have yet to encounter while following Miquella’s path.
The expansion of Shadow of the Erdtree is massive, with many discoveries to be made. As we learn more, we will keep you updated.
Needle Knight Leda
Leda, the first NPC you will encounter in the Shadow of the Erdtree, is the leader of the Followers of Miquella in the Shadowlands. She is a faithful and dedicated follower of the cherubic demigod, and her first appearance is in the Moghwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, the starting point of the game.
Afterward, you will encounter her along with another NPC named Hornsent by the High Road Cross Site of Grace. It is located just outside the northern exit of Castle Ensis. Leda is filled with optimism and eagerly anticipates meeting her role model Miquella, but it doesn’t take long to sense a haunting aura surrounding her.
Ansbach
Ansbach, who was previously the leader of Mohg’s Pureblood Knights, has now reached old age. His desire for violence and warfare has diminished greatly. He grieves the death of his Lord Mohg and is determined to seek retribution for his murder. Additionally, Ansbach’s connection with the other Followers of Miquella is strained due to the demigod’s complicated history with Mohg.
Despite this, his experience remains unparalleled as he serves as the primary intelligence officer for the followers of Miquella. He holds great significance in the story, often sharing his own insights on the Tarnished’s discoveries, which must be heeded closely. He is also closely involved in the quests of other NPCs. You can spot him with Moore at the Main Gate Cross, located outside the Belurat tower settlement.
Ansbach used to be a follower of Mohg.
Redman Freyja
Freyja, as her name implies, remains a dedicated follower of Starscourge Radahn. A former member of the Redmane Knights, she continues to embody their traditional attire and beliefs. Her loyalty, devotion, and love for the thrill of battle have not wavered. Following the death of Radahn, Freyja has turned to his half-brother, Miquella, as her new master.
You can request assistance from her during battles against specific bosses once you have met her. She can be located near the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace on the Gravesite Plains, which is not too far from the starting point where you emerge after interacting with the cocoon in the boss arena of Mohg, Lord of Blood.
Hornsent
Hornsent, a resident of the Shadow Lands, has survived the purges carried out by Messmer, which resulted in the death of his entire family. He is a devoted follower of Miquella and firmly believes that the young demigod has the ability to bring about positive change in his troubled homeland.
Despite his strong vengeful and resentful feelings towards the Golden Order and those who adhere to the Guidance of Grace, he is willing to put aside his animosity for the Tarnished and serve Miquella. He can be found with Freyja near the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace.
The Dragon Communion Ascetics
The Dragon Communion Ascetics are a group of ancient dragon worshippers and loyal followers of Dragonlord Placidusax. Recently, the enclave’s Priestess has been on the lookout for a capable warrior to aid Igon in his quest to vanquish their greatest foe, Bayle the Dread, who is despised by all dragons.
The Tarnished will be fully supported in their quest through Dragon’s Blessings. However, it is important to note that this quest culminates in a highly challenging boss battle. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that you are adequately prepared before confronting Bayle.
Shadow of the Erdtree features the original temple of Dragon Communion.
Moore
This kind-hearted giant fulfills the role of quartermaster for the Followers of Miquella in Shadow of the Erdtree. He is a sincere individual tasked with gathering provisions and other necessities, aided by the Forager Brood – a group of orphaned children led by Malenia. During your travels, you may encounter the Forager Brood, who are known to offer Cookbooks in exchange for interaction.
Nevertheless, inadvertently killing one of Malenia’s children will result in alienating Moore. Moore remains stationed near the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace, and his role as a merchant for the majority of the DLC remains unchanged even after completing the main story quest.
Dryleaf Dane
Father Dane, a member of the Dryleaf Sect, is a skilled martial artist and firm believer in taking action over using words, a belief that he makes evident from the very beginning.
Similar to the other devoted Followers of Miquella, he holds great significance in the overarching storyline of Shadow of the Erdtree. He is positioned near the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace, immediately following Castle Ensis, accompanied by his comrades.
The Order of Manus Metyr
The Order of Manus Metyr is a group of individuals who worship the cosmos and are under the leadership of Count Ymir. As a Glintstone sorcerer, Count Ymir can be found at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. For those who practice magic, Count Ymir serves as a significant vendor in the Shadow Lands.
Once the initial part of his quest is completed, Jolan, his servant, can also accompany you in battle. In Shadow of the Erdtree, Count Ymir is a crucial NPC whose quest has significant effects on the plot. It is a more intricate quest compared to others, so it is advisable to check in on him periodically or when noteworthy events occur elsewhere.
Count Ymir is a skilled and important mage in the DLC.
Thiollier
Thiollier, a disciple of the enigmatic St. Trina, may be a meek individual with no fighting skills, but he compensates for this with his extensive knowledge of poisons.
He offers aid to his fellow countrymen by providing various poisonous materials that can be utilized in combat for an upper hand. You can locate him in the vicinity of the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace. His journey may result in an encounter with the renowned saint herself.
St. Trina
Throughout the base game of Elden Ring, St. Trina was frequently mentioned, leaving players to wonder about this enigmatic character. Trina’s Lily, found in the Lands Between, is often associated with her, drawing a similarity to Miquella and the lily named after him. Is it possible that she is somehow related to the benevolent demigod?
go up
Igon, a renowned dragonslayer, has an unyielding fixation on hunting and slaying Bayle the Dread, the nemesis of Dragonlord Placidusax. He draws inspiration from Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, as his sole purpose in life is to pursue Bayle.
Nevertheless, this elderly dragonslayer may require assistance in seeking retribution for his lord. During your ascent of the mountains in the southeast region of the Shadow Lands, you will come across Igon, who can provide further insight into his journey and mission through his interactions with the Dragon Communion Ascetics.
