Before joining ADOR, NewJeans Minji’s mother gave an exclusive interview to Sports World where she discussed the challenges her daughter faced while training under Source Music and the pressure she received to quit school.
According to Minji’s mother, the dorm where she stayed was in a state of disrepair with mold and cockroaches present in the rooms. It was apparent that Source Music did not prioritize the living conditions of the young girls. Despite being only 13-14 years old, Minji was required to return to the dorm alone at 2 a.m. after completing practice. In an attempt to prioritize her training, Source Music even suggested Minji quit school, making it impossible for her to balance her studies and practice.

Undoubtedly, every K-pop idol, regardless of their achievements, has experienced challenging trainee days while living in dorms. Nevertheless, the living conditions at the dorm where Minji and her fellow Source Music trainees resided were excessively harsh, causing her mother to feel immense relief and joy when Minji relocated to ADOR and received exceptional care from CEO Min Hee-jin.
After the interview, a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) shocked everyone by discovering that the dorm where Minji used to live, which was infested with low-quality facilities and cockroaches, was actually the former dorm of the renowned global group BTS.
The dorm, once the birthplace of the legendary group BTS, is situated in the historic Cheonggu Building and has since been handed over to Source Music. Some netizens, unsure if the living conditions during BTS’s trainee days were as harsh as Minji’s, also supported Minji’s mother’s statement that it is not suitable for young girls to reside in such a impoverished environment.
A netizen shared this news on Nate Pann and grabbed attention by stating, “Do you think Min Hee-jin, who follows shamanism, and the NewJeans parents may have allowed their children to live there in order to receive positive energy from BTS?”In the midst of debates about the living situation, numerous ARMYs (BTS’s fanbase) expressed frustration over BTS being continuously brought up in unrelated matters.
