Bandai Namco has revealed that the popular franchise Ghost in the Shell will be adapted into a new television anime series, produced by Science SARU. The highly-anticipated series is scheduled to premiere in 2026 and will be titled The Ghost in the Shell, although this may still be subject to change.
Despite Science SARU being the primary animation studio for the series, other production companies including Bandai Namco, Kodansha, and Production I.G. are also involved. These companies have previously worked on animated adaptations of the Ghost in the Shell franchise.
Updates on the Ghost in the Shell Anime
Despite the limited information currently available about the upcoming anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, we can gather some insights from the manga stills featured in the promotional video. It seems to be a reimagining of the original story, possibly staying true to the manga with a modern twist. The highly acclaimed 1995 film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell revolutionized the science fiction genre and served as a source of inspiration for numerous other anime. It is safe to assume that the new series will uphold the same level of excellence as its predecessors.
Despite fans’ uncertainty about the new adaptation due to the beloved status of the original movie, they can take comfort in the fact that the production company behind it, Science SARU, has a proven track record with successful shows like Devilman Crybaby and Ride Your Wave. With the highly anticipated Dandadan in the works, it is safe to say that the new anime adaptation is in capable hands.
Despite Production I.G., the studio known for the franchise, making a return, there will also be some unexpected new animators involved in the upcoming 2026 project. As Science SARU was recently acquired by Toho Animation, it is likely that we will see some alterations.
