New Trailer for Attack on Titan Movie Sparks Mixed Reactions Among Fans

Attack on Titan isn’t over yet, as a new movie is set to be released, bringing the final episodes to theaters, and opinions among fans are divided about this decision.

If any anime encapsulates the 2010s, it’s undoubtedly Attack on Titan. Since its premiere in 2013, the show has amassed a massive global following, solidifying its status as a major franchise alongside One Piece and Dragon Ball.

The final episode aired in 2023, but the upcoming film, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, will re-examine the closing moments through a compilation format. This film aligns more closely with the vision of director Yuichiro Hayashi, who originally aimed for a theatrical release.

A newly released trailer and poster provide a glimpse of the epic struggle to thwart Eren Yeager and the Rumbling, characterized by intense battles and dramatic scenes. Experiencing this in a theater promises to be impactful, although some fans express skepticism.

One fan remarked, “I see, they’re still squeezing the last drops of milk,” while another added, “Unless there’s new segments or anything different at all story-wise, I don’t see the point. Other than to make as much money as possible, of course,” in responses shared on X/Twitter.

This re-release is set to debut in Japan on November 8, 2024, a year after the TV series concluded. It will compile the final four episodes from Part 4 of Season 4 into a single cohesive feature.

With a runtime of 155 minutes, viewers can expect a lengthy cinematic experience, akin to regular blockbuster films that frequently exceed this duration. While some fans are excited about seeing MAPPA’s stunning animation and sound in theaters, others remain hesitant.

This film shares the same novelty that has enabled other successful anime, like Demon Slayer, to release compilation films before new seasons, as well as titles like Haikyuu!!, Blue Lock, and Spy x Family enjoying global theatrical releases. If these series can achieve this, Attack on Titan certainly has the potential to do so.
