Grimace, the cherished mascot of McDonald’s, has officially entered his baseball era. Since his memorable first pitch at Citi Field on June 12, when the New York Mets triumphed over the Miami Marlins, the team’s performance has flourished. Now, Grimace has secured a permanent presence at the stadium.
Indeed, the Mets have wholeheartedly welcomed their new purple supporter, as Grimace is no longer merely a one-time guest. The Mets organization recently declared that Grimace has been granted his own seat at Citi Field, honoring his newfound status as a “good luck charm.”
Brenden Mallette, the Mets’ senior vice president of partnerships, remarked, “It’s been fantastic to witness how our fanbase has embraced the Grimace phenomenon following his debut pitch in June.”
He further mentioned that assigning Grimace a seat was a means to honor the joy and excitement he has brought to both fans and the organization.
The significant occasion unfolded on Monday, September 16, when Grimace returned to Citi Field to unveil his custom-crafted seat, adorned in his iconic purple color.
The Mets shared that this seat serves as a tribute to Grimace’s unique bond with their supporters, located in section 302, row 12, symbolizing June 12—the date Grimace first infused his magic into the team.
To top it off, Grimace even guided fans on a stadium tour in a lively video shared on Instagram by McDonald’s and the Mets. He concludes the tour by plopping down into his new seat, much to the fans’ excitement.
Interested in sitting in Grimace’s special seat? This iconic spot is available for purchase during all remaining home games, providing fans an opportunity to soak in the good vibes that Grimace introduced back in June.
And it appears this strategy has paid off, as Mets executive vice president Andy Goldberg shared with the Associated Press: “We’ve been playing exceptional baseball. Since the end of May, we have been dominating.”
With Grimace cheering from his designated purple chair, it’s evident that the Mets’ season has been more enjoyable and lucky than ever.
