Newfound Popularity of the Name ‘Demure’ Among Babies Linked to Viral TikTok Trend

The most recent viral trend on TikTok has encouraged some parents to choose a distinctive name for their infants, but online users do not believe it is a very thoughtful decision.

Nowadays, it seems impossible to browse your timeline without coming across the term ‘demure’. The word’s sudden surge in popularity can be attributed to a comical TikTok video uploaded by Jools Lebron.

Lebron’s video showcasing her demure and mindful makeup look for work went viral, receiving over 49 million views since its upload on August 5.

Ever since, the phrase ‘very demure, very mindful’ has become extremely popular on the internet, to the point where some parents are opting to give their children names inspired by it.

The online community has been engaged in a heated debate due to a couple of viral TikToks where parents announced that they had named their newborn babies ‘Demure.’ One mother, in particular, has gained attention for supposedly naming her child ‘DeMure Reign.’

“Introducing DeMure,”she wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, proudly showing off the newest member of the family. “As you can see, she’s not shedding a single tear. She’s incredibly sweet, adorable, and embodies everything that is DeMure.”

A mom is going viral after supposedly naming her baby after TikTok’s ‘demure’ trend.

Despite the mother’s choice, the name received widespread criticism from netizens who were unimpressed and felt it was inappropriate to name a child after a TikTok trend.

One commenter on Reddit jokingly expressed that naming one’s child Demure would not be very appropriate, mindful, or considerate, considering the connotation of the word.

“According to another person, a modest rule in history is often the cause of one’s execution by the guillotine.”

Despite facing criticism, some individuals argue that the word ‘demure’ holds a positive meaning and, apart from its origins as a meme, can be considered a lovely name.

During a TikTok video, one viewer commented, “I believe it’s a lovely name, despite its association as a meme. It’s also aesthetically pleasing and has a positive connotation, don’t you think?”

“The name was described as being quite adorable and modest,”another person commented.

Despite this, it appears that numerous other parents are also using this trend as a joke. One mother, for example, received over 300K views for claiming she had named her baby ‘De’Mure Dy’Nasty.’

Upon further explanation in a follow-up video, it was revealed that the name she had originally given was not in fact her child’s real name. She clarified the pronunciation of the false name.

Despite its popularity, this latest trend has not come without consequences. Unfortunately, Lebron was devastated to discover that her viral catchphrase had already been trademarked by someone else. However, her supporters are standing behind her, optimistic that she will be able to claim ownership of the term through her humorous video.
