NewJeans Continues Japan Tour Plans After Informing ADOR of Contract Termination, Fans Celebrate

NewJeans’ TV Debut in Japan Amid Contract Controversy

On November 29th (local time), popular girl group NewJeans made a notable appearance on TV Asahi’s renowned music program, Music Station. The band energized the audience with performances of their hit songs “Ditto” and “How Sweet,” eliciting enthusiastic cheers from their devoted Japanese fanbase.

Japanese Cuisine Favorites

During the show, fellow guest group BABYMONSTER was asked about their favorite Japanese dish, to which they enthusiastically replied, sukiyaki. NewJeans member Minji reinforced this sentiment, stating, “We love sukiyaki too.” Additionally, Tetsuya Murakami, a member of the esteemed Japanese vocal group Gospellers, expressed his admiration for NewJeans, reminiscing about their June concert at Tokyo Dome where he waved to them.

Contract Termination and Press Conference

This performance marks NewJeans’ first official public engagement following their recent decision to end their exclusive contract with ADOR. On November 28th at 8:30 PM, the group held an emergency press conference—15 days after sending a content certification letter to ADOR on November 13th, detailing their demands.

The group announced the termination was effective at midnight on November 29th, citing concerns that “ADOR lacks both the will and capability to protect NewJeans.” They underscored that any responsibility for the situation rests solely with ADOR, asserting, “We have no reason to pay any penalties.” Furthermore, they expressed a desire to keep the name NewJeans and work with former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.

NewJeans made it clear that they did not intend for anyone to be adversely affected by the contract termination, stating, “We will fully fulfill any contractual obligations made between ADOR and others prior to the termination date.”

ADOR’s Response

In light of the press conference, ADOR expressed regret, stating it was unfortunate that the announcement regarding the contract termination occurred without adequate review, especially before they received a response to the content certification letter. They maintained that as the contractual party, they had not breached the contract, emphasizing that a mere breakdown of trust does not justify termination.

Furthermore, ADOR expressed a willingness to discuss the matter in person, stating, “If possible, we would like to meet and talk in person. Please take your time to reflect while carrying out your schedule in Japan and inform us of your availability. We are committed to listening to all points raised during today’s press conference.”
