NewJeans Members Make Generous Donation to ChildFund Korea
On November 19, ChildFund Korea, under the leadership of President Hwang Young-ki, announced a generous donation of 100 million won by the popular K-pop group NewJeans, represented by members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. This initiative, inspired by their fan community known as Bunnies, aims to support children and adolescents who serve as caregivers within their families, particularly those taking care of elderly relatives, individuals with disabilities, or those suffering from illnesses.
Supporting Young Caregivers
The motivation behind this heartfelt donation stems from the members’ desire to alleviate the significant burdens faced by these young caregivers. “We want to relieve the caregiving responsibilities of children and adolescents and assist them in reclaiming their personal growth and daily routines,” the group shared. They emphasized their commitment to supporting these individuals as they navigate their unique challenges.
Focused on Development and Independence
In their statement, the members expressed, “Through this donation, we aim to provide essential support for their healthy development and independence. We will remain engaged with their progress, ensuring these children can discover and pursue their dreams.” This initiative highlights a growing awareness of the challenges faced by young caregivers—a demographic often overlooked in discussions about youth support.
Assistance for 30 Families Nationwide
The allocated funds will benefit 30 households across the nation, providing critical support for living expenses, housing, education, and healthcare needs. Additionally, this initiative includes resources for career exploration and job placement for these young individuals, empowering them towards financial independence.
Community Impact
Shin Jung-won, who heads the Social Contribution Cooperation Division at ChildFund Korea, expressed optimism about the initiative, stating, “We hope that this support alleviates daily pressures for these children and adolescents, allowing them to concentrate on their personal growth and independence. We are committed to offering diverse support systems to ensure that more children grow up in an environment filled with warmth and encouragement.”
A Personal Touch in Philanthropy
Notably, the NewJeans members chose to make this donation under their personal names rather than using their group name, despite their recent decision to terminate exclusive contracts with their agency, ADOR. This decision underscores their individual commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
