NewJeans’ Criticism of HYBE: Hanni’s Neglect, Data Privacy Issues, and Conflict with Shin Woo-seok

On September 11th, NewJeans conducted a surprise live broadcast on a new YouTube account, distinct from their official one.

In a serious environment, Hyein shared, “The reason we decided to have this live broadcast was that it was difficult to see those who have achieved so much alongside us suffer under unfair demands and pressure.”

“I want to clarify that this livestream was prepared by the five of us because we genuinely wanted to communicate. We received help from trusted directors with aspects we couldn’t manage, like filming settings,” she explained. “Since it involves all five of us, we have the courage to share our stories directly.”

Initially, the members voiced their concerns regarding the atmosphere at HYBE. Hanni recounted, “The 4th floor of HYBE’s building is where I get my hair and makeup done while other employees come and go. One day, I was alone in the hallway when another team passed by with their manager, and I greeted them. Upon their return, the manager said directly in my hearing, ‘Ignore her.’ I don’t understand why I had to endure that.”

Furthermore, NewJeans addressed the unauthorized release of their trainee videos by Dispatch. “Our personal information, including videos and medical records from our training period, was published. I was genuinely surprised to discover this,” Haerin remarked. “I didn’t grasp why the company that should be protecting us allowed such information to be exposed instead of safeguarding it.”

“Naturally, we worry that strange data and false information might circulate in the future,” she added. “We’ve raised this issue with our parents and former CEO Min, but HYBE has not taken any steps to resolve it. The CEO’s dismissal has left us uncertain about whom to trust and depend upon going forward.”

Minji then expressed, “We are indeed anxious about our future, and it’s frightening that our work is being infringed upon,” referencing the contention between director Shin Woo-seok and ADOR. “Please refrain from causing unnecessary issues, and respect the director we collaborated with,” she emphasized. “What you are currently doing is not in our favor.”

In conclusion, Haein stated, “The way HYBE operates is neither honest nor correct from our experience. Kindly do not impede our work. We request the return of CEO Min Hee-jin.” “I’m not asking for improved performance, but rather that you fulfill your responsibilities in your own sphere, while we manage ours,” she continued. Danielle remarked, “HYBE is perceived as an inhumane organization. What lessons can we draw from this?” Minji added, “Please restore ADOR to its original state by the 25th.”
