Seoul Court Grants ADOR’s Injunction for NewJeans Management
On March 21, the 50th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of ADOR, affirming its authority as the official management agency for the popular girl group NewJeans. This legal development comes in response to a lawsuit initiated by ADOR against the group’s five members, who had declared their intent to terminate their contracts last November. The members’ attempts to engage in independent advertising and entertainment activities prompted ADOR’s injunction request.
Responses from ADOR and NewJeans Members
In a statement following the court’s decision, ADOR expressed regret over the members’ actions, stating, “It is regrettable that the members are trying to initiate independent entertainment activities before receiving a legal judgment. This could be a serious violation of their contracts.” In contrast, the members of NewJeans responded assertively, saying, “We wanted to resolve matters amicably, but ADOR and HYBE’s actions left us no choice but to fight for the truth in court.”

Legal and Financial Implications
The court’s ruling also required NewJeans to bear the legal costs associated with the injunction, which adds complexity to their already precarious situation. Notably, this judicial decision raises doubts about the group’s participation in forthcoming events, including the highly anticipated ComplexCon scheduled for March 23 in Hong Kong.
Restrictive Measures on NewJeans Activities
Furthermore, the ruling reinforced ADOR’s exclusive planning rights over NewJeans, deeming any advertising contracts made independently by the group as unlawful. Consequently, NewJeans will face restrictions on embarking upon promotional and music activities without ADOR’s oversight.

Future Developments in the Ongoing Legal Dispute
While the court has temporarily upheld ADOR’s management status prior to the first trial regarding the exclusive contract’s validity, the ongoing legal discord between the two parties is poised to unfold further. The impending lawsuit will be pivotal, determining the future direction of NewJeans and their career trajectory moving forward.
