NewJeans’ Guesting Sparks Controversy with Lowest Rating in ‘2D1N’ History: ‘They’re Cute But Not Funny at All’

Despite the high expectations for NewJeans’ appearance on “2D1N”, the show received the lowest ratings in its history.

What might be the cause for this?

During the June 9 episode, the cast members of the popular KBS 2TV show “2 Days & 1 Night”(2D1N) transformed into an idol group and competed against a real K-pop girl group, with NewJeans making a special appearance.

Prior to its broadcast, the show garnered significant attention due to it being the K-pop group’s first appearance on a terrestrial entertainment program since their debut.

This also sparked excitement about the possibility of breaking a new viewership record for the show, as 2D1N has been a beloved television program for people of all ages in South Korea since 2007.

The main focus of the episode is on the six main cast members, Kim Jong Min, Yeon Jung Hoon, Moon Se Yoon, DinDin, Na In Woo, and Yoo Seon Ho, as they explore various locations throughout the country and experience the local cuisine and culture.

To add excitement to the program, they undertake tasks and trials in order to steer clear of any penalties or consequences while dining.

Sometimes, guests are invited to join them, and typically, it is the idols who help boost the ratings.

After NewJeans appeared as a guest on the show, the current leader of K-pop set a new record for 2D1N. However, to everyone’s surprise, it was a rather “humiliating”one.

In its 17-year run, the show’s episode featuring the girl group recorded the lowest viewership at 6.1%, a 1% decrease from the previous week.

Despite the high expectations of its loyal viewers, the show has not achieved a rating higher than 10% in a year. Many had hoped that the girl group would bring about this miracle, but unfortunately, it did not come to fruition.

Upon hearing the news, K-pop fans swiftly shared their opinions and speculated on potential reasons for the unexpected outcome.

On top of the list was the disagreement among the people regarding its agency, ADOR, which was in conflict with HYBE.

In a recent incident, Min Hee Jin stood up against her parent company’s decision to remove her as CEO due to their claims of her trying to gain complete control of ADOR’s management.

One possible reason for this could be that the majority of viewers were instead tuning in to the competing show “Running Man,”which featured Hwang Hee Chan, a popular Korean soccer player.

Given that a large portion of TV viewers are currently elderly individuals, they would likely favor an athlete over a group of idols.

Finally, there were also suggestions that the issue lay with the group itself, as they were described as “unfunny”and “boring”during the program.

In previous times, idols brought a refreshing and comical element to an entertainment show, but a few viewers felt that NewJeans were not enjoyable at all.

There are a few comments available:

  • “They’re cute, but not funny at all.”
  • “Normally, 2 Days & 1 Night weren’t funny with guests, but they are better when they are just fighting with each other.”
  • “Because ‘Running Man’ was funnier.”
  • “It was so boring.”
  • “It’s because it wasn’t funny.”
