NewJeans’ Hanni Emotional at National Assembly Audit: Expresses Gratitude to Supporters

On October 15 at 2:30 PM, Hanni from NewJeans took the stand as a witness during the National Assembly audit that was conducted by the Environment and Labor Committee alongside the Economic, Social, and Labor Committee.

With tears in her eyes during her closing statements, Hanni expressed, “I appreciate the National Assembly members for giving me this chance. Today’s discussions center on critical topics such as workplace bullying and ostracism. From my own experiences, I’ve recognized that legislation isn’t a cure-all. However, I firmly believe that if we treat each other with respect, we could eliminate workplace bullying and ostracism altogether.”

She went on to say, “I wish that no seniors, peers, juniors, or trainees ever have to face these issues. I’m truly grateful for all the people who have shown concern for us,” as she became emotional.

Hanni also addressed inquiries she received, stating, “Many have questioned why I had to experience this in Korea. However, there’s no reason for anyone to feel pity for me, as Korea is the place where I met my members and staff, who feel like family, enabling me to pursue my passion.”

She further conveyed her disappointment, stating, “Those in need of apologizing should step forward transparently rather than hiding away. It’s incredibly frustrating that they choose to evade this responsibility.”

In her closing remarks, Hanni flashed a smile and noted, “I’m at a loss for how to convey my thanks, but even the Australian Embassy reached out to my parents out of concern. Just knowing they were worried and willing to assist meant so much. If I ever need to speak out in the future, I’ll dedicate time to improving my Korean before doing so. Thank you.”
