NewJeans’ Hanni Reveals: “I’m Sure HYBE Dislikes Us + Our Unique Debut Journey”

On October 15th, Hanni testified as a reference at the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee session. She expressed her belief, stating, “Not only because of the bullying claims but also due to the overall environment at the company and recent incidents where HYBE staff criticized NewJeans in the app ‘Blind’, I’ve come to the conclusion that the company harbors negative feelings toward us.”

Delving into her reasoning for this sentiment, Hanni elaborated, “We embarked on our journey through a unique route. We didn’t adhere to the conventional path laid out by the company, yet we achieved success, which I believe has led to their attempts to undermine us. This belief is why I feel they have a dislike for us.”

When questioned about whether the ongoing conflict between HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin might influence NewJeans’ treatment at HYBE, Hanni replied, “It’s a possibility. Considering their dynamic, this situation shouldn’t occur, but since it is happening, I can no longer remain quiet.”

In contrast to other groups under the HYBE label that typically debut with the involvement of Bang Si-hyuk in production decisions, NewJeans was launched under the guidance of former ADOR CEO and producer Min Hee-jin. Prior reports have hinted at tensions between Bang and Min.

During a live stream on YouTube last month, Hanni disclosed that she overheard a manager from a different HYBE group instructing others to “ignore her.” The manager in question oversees the group ILLIT. In response, ILLIT’s label, Belift Lab, refuted Hanni’s statement, referencing CCTV evidence and the ongoing probe involving the individual.
