NewJeans Hanni’s 10 Million Won Outfit at National Assembly Amid “HYBE Bullying” Allegations Ignites Controversy

On October 15, Hanni from NewJeans was a key witness during a thorough investigation conducted by the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly, where she emotionally addressed the issue of workplace harassment at HYBE.

During her testimony, she disclosed that other artists in HYBE’s facility were instructed by their manager to “ignore” her presence. Even though the situation was known, it was reported that the new CEO of ADOR, Kim Joo-young, refrained from taking action, citing insufficient evidence. Hanni further shared that the “higher-ups,” including HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, had never acknowledged the members either before or after their debut. Additionally, it was alleged that employees from HYBE attempted to sabotage NewJeans’ achievements by disseminating unfounded negative narratives on anonymous online forums.

Following her testimony, Hanni remarked, “I didn’t intend to cry, but the tears just flowed.” Her fellow members from NewJeans showed their unwavering support throughout the ordeal.

Meanwhile, public sentiment has been mixed, particularly after it came to light that NewJeans amassed an impressive 110.3 billion won (approximately $82.7 million) in sales just two months following their debut, resulting in each member earning 5.2 billion won (around $3.9 million). In this context, Hanni’s appearance at the National Assembly also drew criticism regarding her choice of attire.

Hanni showcased a modest style, combining a white shirt with an ivory knit vest and jeans. Her outfit was valued at approximately 1 million won (about $750), complemented by a small Gucci bag worth 4.3 million won (about $3,225), which she carries as a global ambassador. She accessorized with a star ring priced at 2.2 million won (approximately $1,650) and shoes costing 1.5 million won (around $1,125). Altogether, her “hearing fashion” totaled nearly 10 million won (about $7,500), igniting further debates among netizens.
