In a recent statement, CEO Min Hee-jin of ADOR, the agency for NewJeans, accused HYBE girl group ILLIT of plagiarizing NewJeans.
As a consequence, previous updates from NewJeans members began to resurface, and it was revealed that NewJeans’ Hyein had posted a photo with the words “Stop copying”on the day of ILLIT’s debut.
As a result, there were theories that Hyein supported Min Hee-jin’s accusations of ILLIT plagiarizing NewJeans, causing intense discussions.
Surprisingly, Hyein’s words were actually meant as an inside joke. Specifically, Haerin, another member of NewJeans, is often referred to as “copy cat”and the phrase “Stop copying me, Kang Haerin”is an inside joke among the group.
The photo of Hyein with the phrase “Stop copying”also captures Haerin lying down, indicating that the post was most likely made in a playful manner and coincidentally aligned with ILLIT’s debut date.
