Minji, the oldest member of NewJeans, is facing criticism for allegedly disregarding TXT during a recent event appearance.
At the SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024, which occurred on July 21, TXT was observed bowing to Minji, causing a stir with her reaction. The video of the NewJeans member seemingly disregarding her senior labelmates went viral on social media, sparking intense discussion among K-pop enthusiasts.
Despite some beliefs that Minji’s actions were unintentional, it is possible that she was simply preoccupied with something else and did not notice TXT bowing and greeting her. Others have suggested that Minji’s attention may have been on rapper Lee Youngji, who was standing in front of TXT. However, as an idol, Minji is likely aware of the potential consequences if she were to appear to ignore her seniors, making it more likely that her actions were unintentional.
Nevertheless, there were also allegations that she deliberately disregarded the boy group.

Moreover, NewJeans was accused of ignoring other artists during the event, not just this one.
A video of NewJeans and ILLIT at the same event went viral online. This was the first time the two groups appeared together since ILLIT’s debut in March. The uncomfortable encounter sparked controversy among netizens, who noted that ILLIT bowed to NewJeans while the latter appeared to ignore their junior group.
Despite being accused of being rude and arrogant towards ILLIT, NewJeans received support from some fans who argued that they may not have noticed their juniors. However, there are others who believe that NewJeans purposely displayed their dislike towards ILLIT, possibly due to the accusations of copying the ADOR girl group’s concept. This has also sparked speculation about the dynamic between ILLIT and NewJeans.
