The parents of the minors who are members of NewJeans, and also their legal guardians, have recently voiced their concerns. Their actions were prompted by an article published on July 23 that criticized ADOR CEO Min hee-jin and HYBE’s response to it. The parents stated that they could not stand by and continue to tolerate what they perceived as a “smear campaign”against ADOR by HYBE.

Minji’s mother speaks out about HYBE’s mistreatment of the girls
Minji’s mother expressed her joy when Minji changed agencies from Source Music to ADOR. She also disclosed previously undisclosed anecdotes about Minji’s time as a trainee at Source Music.
At the age of 13, Minji embarked on her first trainee experience at Source Music and began living alone in Seoul. However, her parents were not allowed to visit her in the dorm, which made them anxious to check on their child.
A year after the initial move, Minji’s mother finally visited the dorm. She was shocked by what she saw: mold growing in corners and cockroaches crawling everywhere. “Reflecting on the fact that Minji had to endure such harsh living conditions without a word still brings tears to my eyes,”she expressed.
The unbearable waiting was not the only issue; the poor living conditions also added to the misery. “Like all other trainees, Minji had to endure endless waiting without any clear explanation or plan from Source Music,”she remembered. “Despite the lack of a promised debut, specific plans, or a debut team, Minji persevered and continued to put in her best efforts.”
Despite being only 14 years old, Minji’s mother recalled how Minji would work until 2 AM every day without taking any days off, even on weekends. She also remembered vividly hearing Minji’s voice on the phone as she tried to calm her fears while walking home alone in the early mornings.
Despite her passion for her studies, Minji had a fear of missing school if she fell asleep. As a result, she would often only wash up before heading straight to school. She would arrive as early as 6 AM and patiently wait at the gate for it to open.
Despite this pressure, Minji’s mother revealed that Source Music had suggested for her to quit school when she was about to enter high school. They believed that it would be challenging for her to balance regular high school and training, and advised against it. However, school served as Minji’s escape from the grueling training.
Despite the lack of any future plans or explanations from Source Music, Minji made the decision to continue her education in high school. The company offered the suggestion of attending an arts high school, but with entrance exams approaching quickly, Minji took on the challenge of preparing on her own. After finding a teacher to help her, she was able to successfully gain acceptance into an arts high school. Her mother emphasized that Minji’s determination and perseverance towards achieving her dream allowed her to endure the challenging environment.
Eventually, Source Music joined HYBE as a label and Minji’s dream was to debut with HYBE’s inaugural girl group. However, she soon learned that HYBE was considering recruiting members from another agency, jeopardizing her chance to debut.
According to her mother, CEO Min Hee-jin remained dedicated to the children she had taken under her wing, which ultimately led to Minji fulfilling her dream with NewJeans.
“We are pleased to have joined ADOR and are grateful for Min Hee-jin’s involvement in our transition from Source Music. Our experience with ADOR has been entirely satisfactory and we have never considered leaving, as emphasized by Minji’s mother.”
“The issue at hand is HYBE’s constant harassment towards us. Do you recall the slew of articles that surfaced on April 22nd and continued for three days, resembling a witch hunt? They portrayed both the parents and NewJeans in a distorted manner. It’s alarming that a major corporation would launch a personal attack on CEO Min Hee-jin. How can we have faith and depend on a parent company that behaves in such a manner?”added the mother.
Hyein and Haein’s Mothers Share Their Horrific Experiences of Being Labeled as Traitors
The mothers of Hyein and Haein also confirmed that they had no intention or plan to depart from ADOR.
Despite having an exclusive contract with ADOR and being completely content, HYBE has falsely portrayed us as betraying the company and planning to leave. However, we have no intention of doing so and are committed to our contract with ADOR.
The mothers shared that, after the final debut evaluation, Source Music did not provide any feedback for months and left the fate of the trainees uncertain.
“The members were all extremely worried that they would not be able to debut. Despite moving to ADOR, they never received any explanation from Source Music’s CEO. The promises made by Source Music during their contract negotiations were never followed up with meetings or communications. Suddenly, HYBE began to portray CEO Min Hee-jin, the parents, and even NewJeans as strange individuals. It is difficult to place trust in a company that acts in such a manner,”they expressed their frustrations.
They clarified their reasons for originally choosing to sign with Source Music, explaining, “At the time, Big Hit (now HYBE) had made a promise to debut their first girl group, and Source Music was the only agency that accepted female trainees. We were delighted to join ADOR under the leadership of CEO Min Hee-jin.”
The mothers of NewJeans emphasized that they all experienced neglect during their time as trainees at Source Music. They issued a warning that if HYBE continues to mistreat the group, they have substantial evidence that they can reveal.
Despite the members switching companies, Haein’s mother raised concerns about Source Music and HYBE’s professional ethics after they released trainee videos without permission. This was in response to Source Music’s recent release of the videos.
The mothers pleaded with HYBE to stop interfering with ADOR. They questioned why HYBE was constantly meddling with a company that was performing well. Despite having multiple conversations with HYBE’s board, they simply asked to be left alone. They expressed their frustration with the lack of communication and found HYBE’s actions to be incomprehensible.
Danielle’s Mother’s Reaction to HYBE’s Response: Who Is Leaking Information?
Danielle’s mother was shocked by the trainee videos that were exposed on the 23rd. She pointed out HYBE’s contradictory statements regarding their debut plans.
“She explained that when we signed with Source Music, it was made clear that if Danielle made the debut team, she would be part of HYBE’s first girl group.”
According to her, the news about including members from previously debuted groups was not mentioned initially, but rather came later through external reports. She also mentioned that the recent “member stealing”article could have only been leaked by HYBE or Source Music. Despite this, HYBE has stated that they are investigating the leak. However, if the article is not corrected, legal action is being considered.
Danielle’s mother voiced worries about the protection of artists at HYBE and Source Music. She questioned, “How can I have confidence in leaving my daughter with these companies if they have a history of potentially harassing their artists and publishing false information at any time?”
Continuous Attacks on ADOR by HYBE – “All Parents Share the Same Sentiment”
The parents interviewed revealed that Hanni’s mother in Australia shares the same beliefs. They pleaded for the ongoing attacks from HYBE to cease, stating, “We want this conflict to come to an end.”
The parents implored HYBE to halt the dissemination of false narratives presented as facts.
“An example is the debut song ‘Attention’ which was directly brought by CEO Min Hee-jin. Danielle also contributed to the lyrics. It is concerning that Source Music released the demo and practice videos for ‘Attention’ without our consent, although they have no affiliation with Source Music. We have taken action by sending a content proof letter to both Source Music and Dispatch. Despite having multiple witnesses to support our claims, HYBE continues to create false narratives that could easily be misunderstood. This is a worrisome situation,”they expressed with a sigh.
