NewJeans’ Parents Hire Celebrity Contract Dispute Lawyer

On May 19th, sources within the entertainment industry revealed that the parents of NewJeans members enlisted the services of lawyer Kang Jin-seok, known for handling entertainment cases, on the 14th in preparation for the interrogation regarding the provisional injunction filed by CEO Min Hee-jin to prevent HYBE from exercising voting rights.

According to reports, Lawyer Kang Jin-seok has handled a multitude of conflicts involving exclusive contracts for celebrities.

The lawyer shared on his blog that he has extensive experience in reviewing exclusive contracts, managing contract terminations, handling compensation lawsuits for breaches of exclusive contracts, and representing celebrities in lawsuits for the return of investments in entertainment companies. He also offers legal counsel and representation for celebrities in various litigation matters.

Lawyer Kang submitted a petition on behalf of the parents of NewJeans members to the court. The petition reportedly conveys their desire to show support for CEO Min Hee-jin.

Prior to the dispute, NewJeans’s parents had already emailed HYBE to express their concerns over the similarities between the concepts of NewJeans and ILLIT, a girl group managed by another label under HYBE.

With the knowledge that the parents of NewJeans members have hired a lawyer who specializes in entertainment disputes, several netizens speculate that there could be a lawsuit from Newjeans against HYBE concerning their exclusive contracts.

However, before the shareholders’ meeting takes place on May 31st, a court ruling on the interim injunction filed by CEO Min regarding the replacement of executives, including herself, at ADOR, will be announced.
