NewJeans Parents Respond: Launching Official Channel to Address HYBE and ADOR’s Allegations

On January 31, the guardians of the NewJeans members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—took to social media to voice their concerns, stating, “We created this account due to the absence of an official means to share our perspective.”They explained their struggles to communicate effectively through interviews with various media outlets, which have often resulted in misrepresentation.

The parents emphasized that, despite some media accurately relaying their messages, those instances were quite rare. They faced challenges distributing official statements through agencies, often encountering misleading headlines that distorted their stance.

In their message, they also disclosed, “With the upcoming injunction lawsuit approaching, we have received information that HYBE and ADOR are spreading inaccurate narratives about the members through multiple journalists. This compelled us to establish this social media presence.”

The urgency in their message reflected their role as the primary representatives of the NewJeans members at this time, requesting understanding for the necessity of this new channel to ensure their position is clearly communicated.

In the backdrop of this situation, on November 28 of the previous year, the NewJeans members held a press conference where they announced the termination of their exclusive contract with HYBE and ADOR.

Following this announcement, in December, ADOR initiated legal proceedings to affirm the validity of their exclusive contract. They have since filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court, aiming to prevent the members from pursuing activities with a new agency or signing advertising contracts.

The NewJeans group has retained the Sejong Law Firm for their legal defense. Additionally, on January 23, they publicly launched a campaign to choose a new name, underscoring, “We have no intention of returning to HYBE and ADOR, as we believe they lack the basic principles of good faith.”

Below is the full statement from the parents of the NewJeans members:

Hello, we are the parents of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.

This account is temporarily operated out of necessity to represent our position in the dispute with HYBE.

Since there has been no official channel to convey our stance, we have made multiple attempts to communicate the facts directly through interviews with various media outlets or through journalists we have encountered.

While we appreciate the few media outlets that have accurately reported our words, they are in the minority. Our efforts to distribute statements through an agency faced significant hurdles due to misleading headlines, often obscuring our true position.

The members’ voices have been misrepresented, framed negatively, or discussed only in a limited number of articles. Concurrently, HYBE and ADOR have been disseminating numerous articles daily—many through online propaganda channels—without adhering to standard journalistic ethics such as fact-checking or allowing for a rebuttal. This content frequently disseminates falsehoods or solely reflects the narratives of HYBE and ADOR.

As the injunction lawsuit approaches, we have learned that HYBE and ADOR are yet again spreading “rumors” among journalists to propagate misleading articles targeting the members. This is the reason for establishing this account.

We acknowledge that many may feel exhausted by this protracted dispute, and we sincerely apologize for any distress this situation has caused.

This account will primarily serve to relay information that the members themselves may find challenging to articulate directly. As their sole representatives at this time, we ask for your understanding and support for this channel to accurately set the record straight.
