The final performance at the “2024 Korea on Stage-New Generation Performance” held at Heungryemun Square in Gyeongbokgung Palace in central Seoul on May 21 was presented by NewJeans. Unfortunately, the group’s youngest member, Hyein, was unable to participate due to a foot injury. As a result, their pre-recorded performance of “Cool With You” at Geunjeongjeon Hall, Gyeongbokgung Palace was showcased during the event.
Geunjeongjeon Hall, an important palace building during the Joseon Dynasty, has been designated as a national treasure and played a significant role in national ceremonies. Despite being part of the Gyeongbokgung Palace, since its opening in 1954, it is uncommon for public performances to take place in the area of Geunjeongjeon Hall.
Specifically, NewJeans holds the distinction of being the inaugural K-pop girl group to take the stage here. Geunjeongjeon was exclusively reserved by the National Heritage Administration for NewJeans’ performance. Prior to this, the pioneering group to perform here was global sensation BTS.
The main attraction of the show was the impressive styling that showcased the allure of Korea. In this year’s production, the NewJeans members donned traditional Korean costumes that were specially tailored for them. Starting with their song “Ditto,”the group put on a spectacular performance of popular hits like “ETA”and “Super Shy,”proving their unwavering dedication to their craft despite conflicts within their company.
“Haerin expressed her gratitude at having performed on numerous stages, but she considered it a great honor and significance to have the opportunity to showcase at Gyeongbokgung Palace, a site of national heritage. Additionally, Danielle confidently took on the role of solo MC for “Korea on Stage,”effortlessly switching between fluent Korean and English.”
On May 31st, a shareholders’ meeting will take place to discuss the removal of ADOR’s CEO Min Her-jin. Additionally, NewJeans will be releasing a new single titled “How Sweet”on the 24th.
