NewJeans Responds to Malicious Comments During Ongoing Legal Battle

On March 24, the Sejong Law Firm, acting on behalf of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, released a statement addressing the escalating issue of defamatory remarks directed at their clients, including a minor. They highlighted the severity of false information and malicious slander surrounding the group, which has reportedly reached a critical point.

The firm disclosed their proactive approach in tackling this situation by continuously monitoring various online communities and social media platforms, including TheQoo, Instiz, Blind, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, DC Inside, FM Korea (Femko), and Daum Cafe. They are determined to work closely with the relevant authorities to track down the anonymous users behind these defamatory content.

“We will pursue all available civil and criminal measures against those spreading falsehoods and insults, ” the firm asserted, while also encouraging fans and the public to report any malicious activity they encounter.

In a related legal matter, on March 21, all five members of NewJeans submitted an appeal against a court ruling that favored their agency, ADOR. The court granted ADOR an injunction that restricts NewJeans from entering into independent contracts or pursuing commercial ventures independently. In response to this decision, the group has initiated legal procedures to contest it.

Since November 2024, NewJeans has claimed their contract with ADOR was terminated, signaling their intent to embark on independent activities. However, due to the recent court ruling, they find themselves restricted from engaging in music-related endeavors such as songwriting, performing, and commercial activities including television appearances, events, and endorsements.

As NewJeans continues to grapple with this legal dispute with ADOR, they are simultaneously preparing to address the ongoing online harassment, indicating a challenging battle on both legal and public fronts ahead.
