If you are eagerly anticipating the release of Reacher Season 3, Netflix has recently added two of Tom Cruise’s most underrated films. However, be aware that his performance in these movies may be controversial.
Despite his successful track record in producing top-quality action movies, Cruise’s filmography does not include many failures. The Mummy, however, stands out as a notable exception – a failed attempt at launching a cinematic universe that ultimately met its demise upon release.
Despite a few exceptions (mainly Losin’ It and Lions for Lambs), he has consistently maintained an exceptional level of quality.
Nonetheless, Jack Reacher, his first film with Christopher McQuarrie as director in 2012, sparked controversy among fans.
Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher Films Now Available on Netflix
Despite being described as a tall, blonde, muscular man with large hands by Lee Childs, Reacher in no way resembles Cruise. He is meant to stand at 6’5″and have hands the size of dinner plates.
Despite the initial concerns of readers, the movie turned out to be quite impressive. Cruise truly captured the essence of the character, focusing on more than just his physical appearance (although Alan Ritchson remains a top contender).
Despite initial plans for the first movie to launch a franchise, those intentions changed due to its lackluster performance at the box office (earning only $218 million) and receiving mixed reviews (64% on Rotten Tomatoes). As a result, only one sequel, Never Go Back, was produced.
Both adaptations focus on individual novels, with the first featuring Reacher as he attempts to uncover the identity of a sniper responsible for a mass shooting. The second installment follows Reacher as he eludes the authorities alongside a suspected spy (Cobie Smulders) facing treason charges.
Their superb action sequences are also worth mentioning; if you need proof, simply search “Jack Reacher bar fight” on YouTube. Despite falling between the popular Mission: Impossible franchise and the highly anticipated Top Gun: Maverick, these films have seemingly been overlooked – fortunately, they are both available to stream on Netflix.
We also have all the latest updates on Reacher Season 3, as well as a list of new movies premiering in cinemas this month.
