On June 11th, Dongguk University’s education broadcasting station’s YouTube channel “DUBS”shared a video entitled “Detailed behind-the-scenes of ‘Lovely Runner’ with PD Kim Tae-yeop – Special lecture for journalists at Dongguk University’s Media Center.”
According to Director Kim Tae-yeop, the impact of K-content has greatly increased. This means that the K-content industry has expanded significantly and generated substantial profits. However, with this growth comes an increased risk of failure. As a result, many producers opt for safer, more predictable storylines. This can ultimately stifle the creativity and inspiration of writers, hindering their ability to produce impactful scripts.
When discussing the production cost of “Lovely Runner”, he mentioned that it amounted to 20 billion won. He explained that this is a typical cost for a 16-episode miniseries and emphasized the significance of this investment. He also noted that if the project were to fail, it would create challenges for many individuals. As a result, he stressed the importance of selecting a safe and potentially successful story. He pointed out that webtoons and web novels often offer popular stories that have already garnered some level of popularity.
The director shared an anecdote about the filming schedule, recounting the experience of having to shoot the final scenes of both episode 2 and episode 13 on the same day. He remembered a comment that was made, questioning if the scenes were truly filmed on the same day and praising Kim Hye-yoon’s impressive acting. The director echoed these sentiments, expressing his admiration for the actress despite her 15-year age difference.
“The popular drama “Lovely Runner”, featuring Kim Hye-yoon and Byun Woo-seok, recently concluded on May 28th with great fanfare. It dominated Good Data’s TV-OTT drama popularity chart for three consecutive weeks, solidifying its position as the top show. Furthermore, the lead actors Byun Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon also maintained their positions at No.1 and No.2 on the drama cast chart for three weeks in a row, showcasing their immense popularity.”
Furthermore, “Lovely Runner”maintained its position at the top of the 2049 rating chart for 7 weeks in a row. Additionally, the drama’s OST “Sudden Shower”reached No.5 on the Melon TOP 100 chart (as of May 24th). By the time episode 10 aired, the drama had already amassed 570 million views and achieved a real-time viewing rate of 94% on all live channels on TVINg, demonstrating its immensely popular and viral status.
