During the August 16th broadcast of JTBC’s “Newsroom,”the show touched upon their recent report regarding BTS member Suga’s drunk driving incident.
On August 7th, “Newsroom”reported on an incident of drunk driving involving BTS member Suga. The news initially shared a CCTV footage showing a man riding an electric scooter on the road, which was believed to be Suga. However, the police investigation later confirmed that the man in the footage was not Suga. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
On the 7th, “Newsroom”released a CCTV video claiming to show Suga riding an electric scooter while under the influence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. However, it was later confirmed that the person in the video was not Suga. In response, “Newsroom”promptly removed the CCTV footage from portal sites and official channels on the 14th. It has been replaced with a general video of the road, unrelated to the incident.
The next day, on the 15th, “Newsroom”issued an apology stating that “Following an investigation, the police have confirmed that the individual riding the scooter in the video was not Suga.”
In the past, “Newsroom”has made multiple inaccurate reports about BTS. For example, in December 2019, they falsely stated that the members of BTS were planning to take legal action against Big Hit Music regarding profit distribution. As a result, they were forced to issue an apology. Additionally, in June of this year, they faced backlash for misinterpreting the comments of a Japanese fan during their coverage of NewJeans’ solo fanmeeting at Tokyo Dome, falsely stating that BTS fans were switching to the NewJeans fandom.
In the meantime, Suga, who is currently serving in the military as a social service worker, was recently found to be operating an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. The police administered a breathalyzer test and determined that his blood alcohol level was 0.227%, which exceeds the threshold for license revocation.
