Next RGG Summit to be Held on September 20

The RGG Summit, an upcoming event by Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) Studio, has been confirmed to take place on September 20. The live stream will be available on both Sega’s Twitch channel and YouTube channel simultaneously at 3 A.M. Pacific Time, 6 A.M. Eastern Time, and 12 P.M. Central European Time. Although the timing may be inconvenient for fans in the Americas, it is highly anticipated that this summit will feature exciting announcements for potential new Yakuza/Like a Dragon games.

Recently this year, the latest installment of the mainline series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, was launched, making it highly improbable for a Yakuza/Like a Dragon 9 announcement. Typically, a new mainline Yakuza/Like a Dragon game is released every four years, which suggests that the development of the ninth game is likely underway. However, it is too early to reveal any information about it. On the other hand, spin-offs are a possibility. A third game in the Judgment sub-series may be in the works, particularly since the last game in the series, Lost Judgment, came out in 2021.

Another potential option could be Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remastered version of the third installment in the primary series. Yakuza 3, which originally debuted in Japan in 2009, boasts a beloved storyline, setting, and ensemble of characters, but would greatly benefit from updates to its combat mechanics, mandatory pursuit sequences, and iconic minigames such as hostess clubs, darts, and billiards. In addition to the confirmation from Summit, the most recent announcement from RGG was regarding the series’ debut on the Nintendo Switch with Yakuza Kiwami, a revamped version of the first game, suggesting that more Kiwami-related news may be on the horizon.

There is a potential for a new Gaiden game to be revealed. The series has a multitude of beloved characters that could be featured in a new Gaiden game, just as Kiryu was in the original. Along with any game-related announcements, details about the upcoming Amazon Prime show may also be mentioned during the summit. Further information is expected to be shared at the Tokyo Game Show, which will be held from September 26 to September 29, shortly after RGG’s stream.
