NHL 25 to launch in early October & feature Hughes brothers on covers

The confirmation of the upcoming NHL 25 game by EA Sports has been announced. The game will prominently feature Quinn, Luke, and Jack Hughes.

On August 22, EA Sports officially announced the release details for NHL 25. This is a significant detail to mention, as the release trailer was shared on social media a few days prior.

The previous year’s NHL game incorporated several new features, such as a pressure system. Unfortunately, this led to difficulties in navigating the game, which EA later addressed and adjusted.

This year, EA will once again make adjustments to the franchise, with new gameplay features being the main focus for NHL 25.

The deluxe version of NHL 25 will showcase the trio of Hughes brothers: Quinn, Luke, and Jack. Quinn, who was awarded the Norris Trophy in 2024, will be the cover athlete for the standard edition in Canada and all other countries excluding the United States. On the other hand, Jack will grace the cover of the standard edition in the U.S.

This marks the second occurrence in the span of three years in which EA has chosen to showcase more than one athlete on the cover. Approximately two years ago, Sarah Nurse and Trevor Zegras were both featured on the cover of all editions of NHL 23.

On the gameplay front, the NHL team introduced their new “next-gen”Vision Control, enabling players to remain fully involved with the net while also moving and keeping their focus on the puck. The EA Sports NHL team displayed early gameplay footage, demonstrating Mohawk turns and seamless transitions between holding and shooting the puck.

According to the development team, Vision Control will offer hockey fans capabilities that were not previously available in NHL 24. These options include the ability to move along the lines without needing to pivot.

EA stated that it re-worked the AI to ensure that non-controlled players move into the appropriate lanes.

NHL 25 will include a range of new features, including a revamped Franchise Mode hub, a Wild Card mode in Hockey Ultimate Team, and a new progression system. Additionally, players can look forward to a “Grudge Match”system that keeps track of their matchup history across both online and offline modes.

NHL 25 is set to be released globally on October 4, 2024, making it the earliest release of the game since 2019. Players can gain early access starting on September 27, one week prior. Furthermore, EA will be launching the game for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, continuing their shift away from previous generation consoles.
