Niantic Adjusts Pokemon Go Fidough Global Challenge Difficulty for Accessibility

Pokémon Go has introduced a new event, the Fidough Fetch, which allows players around the globe to unlock Fidough. In an effort to make this goal more achievable, Niantic has adjusted the throwing requirements, making it notably easier for participants.

Unlocking Fidough in Global Challenges

The Global Challenges in Pokémon Go are collective tasks where players must unite their efforts to achieve a common goal, ultimately unlocking special Pokémon or rewards. Given the game’s massive player base, these challenges are typically completed well ahead of the deadline, as they often involve activities players engage in regularly, such as catching a plethora of Pokémon.

Adjustments to Throwing Requirements

Launched on January 3, the Fidough Fetch event saw Niantic modify one of the key requirements for the Global Challenge. The Pokémon Go Twitter/X account announced that instead of needing to make “Nice Curveball Throws”, players now only need to “Make Nice Throws”.

The Implications of an Easier Challenge

This updated challenge primarily aims to allow players to unlock Fidough along with its evolution, Dachsbun. By simplifying the requirements, Niantic appears to be enhancing the likelihood that players will successfully contribute to the event without excessive difficulty.

Previously, executing a Curveball throw was more manageable due to a broader throwing reticle. However, as the game evolved, increasing accuracy became necessary, particularly when aiming for smaller Pokémon. The technique of performing a Curveball, which involves spinning the Poké Ball at an angle, can be tricky and often requires several attempts. In contrast, a standard Nice, Great, or Excellent throw can be executed with a simple straight motion.

Future Considerations for Global Challenges

Given these adjustments, it raises the question of whether Niantic should continue tying Global Challenges to unlocking specific Pokémon. With popular Pokémon like Fidough from Generation 9 being highlighted, could it be more beneficial to streamline the process and allow access without stringent requirements? After all, the risk of fans not meeting throw challenges doesn’t seem justifiable when it comes to beloved Pokémon.

Furthermore, considering that the Fidough Fetch event only lasts until January 7, it’s possible that the brief duration prompted Niantic’s changes. Similar to how bread requires the right amount of time in the oven to bake properly, perhaps the same should be applied when letting players enjoy new content.
