Baldur’s Gate 3 players were taken aback when they discovered that Nine-Fingers Keene’s tale extended beyond just a few knives in her possession.
Keene, also known as Nine-Fingers, is the Guildmaster of a human Guild located in the Guildhall of Baldur’s Gate’s Lower City.
However, unlike the majority of NPCs, Nine-Fingers Keene’s backstory goes beyond the confines of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Within the world of Magic the Gathering, Astele Keene is commonly referred to as Nine-Fingers Keene due to her missing pinkie finger.
Nine-Fingers Keene is a unique Commander card that possesses the following ability: “Whenever it deals combat damage, the top nine cards of your library are revealed. You may then choose a Gate card from among them and put it onto the battlefield. If you have control of at least nine Gates, the remaining cards are added to your hand; otherwise, they are shuffled back into your library in a random order.”
Despite being kidnapped as a child by a one-eyed elf who cut off her pinkie and sent it to her parents as ransom, Nine-Fingers Keene managed to escape. However, her journey did not end there.
Upon her return, she proceeded to torture the elf by extracting his final eye and removing eight of his fingers, leaving only his pinkies intact.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are able to examine Nine-Finger Keene’s inventory and discover the goods she is concealing. Aside from two key slots, her entire inventory is stocked with knives.
As a result, players began to speculate about the possible implications for her backstory and whether it could be connected to her having only nine fingers.
“I would prefer to imagine that she simply lost a finger due to her hasty movements while reaching into her pockets,”one person suggested.
Another person scolded, “The girl can’t even reach into her pockets without risking a cut on her artery. She needs to be more careful.”
According to a user on the Reddit thread, Nine-Fingers Keene is rumored to have a hidden inventory. However, instead of knives, this inventory is said to be filled with fingers. These fingers supposedly belong to all the pickpockets who attempted to steal from her and were met with a sharp retaliation.
In the game Baldur’s Gate 3, Nine-Fingers Keene is a skilled fighter known for her proficiency in combat and her preference for knives as her main weapons. She is able to wield up to three knives in a single turn, each capable of dealing 50 damage, making her a formidable adversary.
