Ninja’s Massive Merch Regret as Twitch’s Biggest Star

“According to Twitch star Ninja, he regrets not making his merchandise distinctive enough during his peak in the streaming industry.”

Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins was formerly the most renowned streamer worldwide, with numerous subscribers regularly tuning in to his Fortnite live streams. However, he eventually made the bold decision to leave and join Mixer.

Despite still being a prominent figure on Twitch, the streamer’s peak saw him become a household name and his merchandise was even sold in popular stores like Target.

During a conversation with MMA fighter Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, Ninja discussed his progress in expanding his brand beyond streaming and expressed regret for some of his previous actions.

The Twitch star expressed contentment with the merch deals, but also acknowledged the need for greater caution in selecting which opportunities to accept. They noted that their presence was widespread, which could have potentially had negative consequences.

The segment begins at 24:35.

While we were at Target, we found a Ninja Nerf gun, but it was made by a different company. We also came across a variety of 100 Ninja shirts. As we accumulated more and more items, we decided to sell some of them on Fiverr. There’s nothing inherently wrong with Fiverr, but it may not be the best representation to see a Ninja shirt being sold for only $1.

Johnson interjected, pointing out how the merchandise had diluted Blevins’ brand.

The streamer admitted, “It’s not like it was a unique experience.”He reflected on the situation and expressed his desire to have been more careful and deliberate with the drops he and his wife, Jess, chose to do. He acknowledged the popularity and quick sell-out of shoe drops and stated that he would have done more of them in hindsight. He also shared his regret of not realizing this sooner.

During the interview, Ninja also mentioned 100 Thieves and their reputation for releasing high-quality merchandise. He even pointed to the fact that he was wearing a Nadeshot shirt, further highlighting the organization’s attention to detail.

This shirt is of high-end and exceptional quality, making it expensive. However, it is guaranteed to last for a long time. Although we would have liked to release more products, we are satisfied with the success of our overall merchandise strategy. Our aim was to have a widespread presence, which we achieved by offering our merchandise in various forms such as plushies and toys.

Ninja has previously expressed regret as a streamer. He sparked controversy when he stated that he could have achieved the same level of fame as Kai Cenat if he had not left Twitch for Mixer in 2019, but acknowledged that Kai’s approach is unique.
