Nintendo Switch 2 Console Reveal Driven by Leaks Rather Than Actual System

The recent unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show has stirred quite a conversation. However, it turns out that this presentation is not grounded in any official designs created by Nintendo, but rather relies on leaked information.

On January 8, a video showcasing a Nintendo Switch 2 unit complete with Joy-Cons surfaced on Twitter/X. This footage was presented by Genki, an accessory manufacturer that clearly stated these were mockups. According to Numerama, Genki mentioned that the Switch 2 is anticipated to launch in April and asserted that showcasing the mockup did not breach any contractual agreements.

However, Nintendo has since issued a statement clarifying that the design for the Switch 2 shown is not an official one. In response to this, Genki representatives told Game*Spark that the mockup was indeed derived from leaks rather than an actual prototype of the console.

Understanding the Genki Mockup’s Origins

It is essential to note that the messaging around this situation is complicated by language barriers; Numerama is a French outlet while Game*Spark operates from Japan. As such, it’s possible that various miscommunications have led to the current confusion surrounding the mockup.

Despite these complications, showcasing products at a major trade event based on potentially inaccurate leaks is a risky move. Given the uncertainty surrounding the next Nintendo Switch, many existing leaks may be speculative or built on outdated intel, raising questions about the viability of the accessories purportedly designed for this new system.

As the anticipation builds, fans eagerly await further information regarding the Nintendo Switch 2. March marks the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year, and many expect that a formal revelation of the new system will occur before then.

While it remains possible that some leaks could prove to be correct, the recent CES 2025 reveal has significantly cast doubt on the credibility of the Genki model, which may ultimately turn out to be an elaborate plastic representation rather than a tangible product.
