Nintendo’s new Joy-Con accessory could offer big hint at Switch 2

Nintendo is finally implementing a new method of charging Joy-Con controllers, seven years after the initial launch of the Switch.

Until this point, the most convenient method for charging Joy-Con controllers has been to place them on the Switch console. However, after seven years since the release of the Switch, Nintendo has finally introduced an alternative option with the Joy-Con charging stand.

This stand is capable of holding either two standard Joy-Con controllers or two of the NES edition controllers that were originally included with the Nintendo World Championship bundle.

Expected to hit the market on October 17, 2024, this would signify a seven-year gap from the Switch’s initial release. The timing of the dock’s launch is intriguing, considering the abundance of third-party charging docks currently on the market.

Despite some fans believing that the timing was intentional and part of a larger plan to set the stage for the Switch 2, others hold a different perspective.

It has been previously reported that the upcoming Switch 2 may utilize a magnetic system for attaching the next generation of Joy-Cons, instead of the current physical rail system. Nonetheless, the Switch 2 is rumored to still be compatible with the current Joy-Cons.

It is speculated that the release of the Joy-Con charging stand may be intended to address the need for a different method of charging for users who purchase the Switch 2 but continue to use their old Joy-Cons, if the reports are indeed accurate.

According to users on social media, including Chris Scullion of VGC, there is a compelling theory that suggests the reason for the sudden release of the game on the Switch, seven years into its life, may be due to certain factors.

The anticipation for the unveiling of the Switch 2 is already at a peak, and this revelation could further escalate excitement and speculation.
