NMIXX’s ‘See That?’ Harshly Receives 1-Star Rating From Music Critic + NSWERs Divided Over Review

Despite receiving a scathing review of their latest title track “See That?”, NMIXX has sparked divided reactions from fans due to the criticism directed towards certain aspects of the song.

On August 19, NMIXX finally unveiled their highly anticipated third mini album “Fe304: STICK OUT”along with its lead single “See That?”.

Despite being released on August 27, “See That?”received a low rating of one out of five stars from South Korean music site critic IZM. In their review, author Jung Gi Yeop primarily criticizes the track for not living up to the standards set by NMIXX’s previous release, “Dash.”

“NMIXX’s color seemed to have been established with the release of ‘Dash,’ but it has now become ambiguous once again. The song mashes hip-hop with fairytale-like melodies, but it encounters turbulence rather than synergy that forges its strengths.”

The writer further mentioned that the song’s bass line was reminiscent of Seo Taiji’s “Comeback Home,”which ultimately resulted in expected outcomes.

The track received criticism for being labeled as “too safe”and lacking the substance that the group’s mix-pop was known for. According to the critic, the song was not a fresh musical innovation like their previous release, but instead felt forced and unnatural in comparison.

Jung Gi Yeop noted that although NMIXX had been steadily gaining success in 2023, it appeared to have “regressed.”The critic also pointed out similarities in the “unfamiliarity”of NMIXX’s songs “O.O”and “See That?”

“It’s a shame that the song doesn’t compliment the individual skills of NMIXX. It is also imperative to know that an easy and comprehensible approach is more needed rather than a puzzling route.”

  • “Dash”was so good that this song felt a bit underwhelming, but it’s getting more addictive.”
  • “They went from easy listening with a hint of NMIXX like ‘Dash’ and ‘Run For Roses’ then back again to unlistenable NMIXX like their debut song.”
  • “Me too. Honestly, I felt like ‘Dash’ was legendary, so ‘See That?’ felt like a letdown. They should’ve released ‘See That?’ first and ‘Dash’ after.”
  • “I honestly don’t understand JYP’s direction for them.”
  • “I like ‘See That?’ though.”
  • “To my ears, the song is just okay.”
  • “I liked it, I watched all the stages.”
  • “I don’t care about what critics have to say.”
  • “I have to completely agree. They received good reactions from both sides of the pond with ‘Dash’ as it wasn’t jarring and it seemed like a sound and concept they could claim and do well with.”
  • “It’s not terrible, but man did it feel like it went on forever. ‘Dash’ and ‘Run For Roses’ were good.”
