No Drugs Yes Condoms: Hong Seok-cheon Warns of Mpox Surge in Korea’s Gay Community

On August 24th, Hong Seok-cheon issued a warning, urging everyone to remain vigilant and cautious. He emphasized the rapid spread of the virus, citing its presence in Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the US, and advised practicing safe sex as a precaution.

He reiterated, “I have said this before, and there is a valid reason behind it. It is crucial to exercise extreme caution while traveling abroad. Upon returning from vacations, there is a high possibility of a surge in cases in Korea. My dear followers, please bear this in mind. This is only the starting point. Prevention is the most important measure! Say no to drugs, but always use condoms!! I feel the need to raise awareness about mpox.”

In recent times, mpox has been resurging primarily in Africa. Since May 2022, this endemic disease has extended its reach to various countries across the globe. Upon contracting this illness, patients typically experience blistering rashes, along with intense fever, headache, and muscle pain.
