No Longer Allowed in Another World: Episode 3 Review – Exploring Osamu Dazai’s Purpose in the Isekai Setting

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the third episode of No Longer Allowed in Another World titled I’m Ready to Die Anytime was released by AtelierPontdarc. The episode continued the story from the previous installment, showcasing the severe injuries sustained by Osamu Dazai and his companions.

In addition, the episode’s main focus was on the worldbuilding and the depiction of the “other worlders,”who do not possess the expected benevolence often seen in typical Isekai stories.

In episode 3, Hiroshi Noda’s storytelling continues to defy the typical conventions of Isekai genre by presenting a distinctive protagonist in Osamu Dazai. Moreover, the episode suggests that Dazai’s summoning to Zauberberg was not solely for the purpose of defeating the Dark Lord, but for a greater and more meaningful reason.

No Longer Allowed in Another World: Episode 3 Review – Focusing on Worldbuilding, Characters, and Osamu Dazai’s Purpose

The third episode of No Longer Allowed in Another World was highly anticipated following the nail-biting cliffhanger of the previous installment. In this episode, it was revealed that Osamu Dazai and his companions had been ambushed by Waldelia, the dark lord who held a strong hatred towards “other worlders.”

The pacing of No Longer Allowed in Another World episode 3, adapted by AtelierPontdarc, is commendable as it covers chapters 4, 5, and 21 pages from chapter 6. This deliberate pacing allowed the respected studio to emphasize the important aspects and avoid rushing through the events.

The main focus of the episode was to provide viewers with a sneak peek into the Isekai universe. It was disclosed that Zauberberg boasts four cathedrals, which serve as the summoning grounds for adventurers from different realms. Upon arriving in the mystical realm, these adventurers must journey to the central zone to fulfill their main mission of defeating the Dark Lord.

It is intriguing to note that these four cathedrals are located in different parts of the world. As a result, in order to see all of them, one would have to journey through the entire land. Annette, an Elven priest, offered her assistance to Osamu Dazai in his search for Sacchan, who could potentially be found at any of the remaining three cathedrals.

In his narrative, Hiroshi Noda reveals an interesting aspect that establishes the scope of the series. The setting of the fantasy anime provides ample opportunity for worldbuilding, with its inclusion of various elements such as Isekai towns, unique creatures, and characters. The addition of Osamu Dazai’s dark humor adds a distinctiveness to the overall narrative.

Despite the numerous events that occurred in No Longer Allowed in Another World episode 3, there was still more to come. The party’s original plan was to head to Zweiten Cathedral, but their journey was interrupted by the appearance of a dragon – the most powerful creature in Zauberberg. However, their encounter took an unexpected turn when a mysterious girl arrived and managed to tame the dragon.

Waldelia cautioned Sensei, Annette, and Tama to depart from the vicinity due to the presence of dangerous monsters. But upon discovering that Sensei, also known as Osamu Dazai, was from another world, she displayed her murderous intentions. She introduced herself as the dreaded dark lord Waldelia, who harbored a strong hatred towards “other worlders”.

At this moment, No Longer Allowed in Another World episode 3 reached its climax as it depicted a clash between two characters with conflicting desires: Waldelia aimed to eliminate Osamu Dazai, a goal that had consumed him his entire life.

Despite being gravely wounded by the Dark Lord, Dazai’s piercing still had a profound effect on Sensei. It was through her wise words that she came to understand that Dazai was not just an ordinary “Other worlder.”In the end, Sensei was rescued by Annette’s familiar who brought her and others to the Zweiten Cathedral.

The latter portion of the episode delved into the storyline surrounding the “other worlders.”Episode 3 of No Longer Allowed in Another World revealed that the adventurers summoned from other worlds often become consumed by their own fame, losing sight of their true mission.

In essence, Hiroshi Noda’s storytelling in the series challenges the conventional Isekai standard, in which a “Hero”is typically revered as a noble character. Instead, the protagonists are depicted as tainted individuals who take pleasure in flaunting their abilities.

In episode 3 of No Longer Allowed in Another World, there was a questioning of Osamu Dazai’s role in the story. The audience was stunned by the revelation that the Wrath Lord had been eliminated by an adventurer.

The subtle implication in the episode was that Waldelia was the daughter of the Wrath Lord, who was seeking revenge against the other worlders for the death of his family. Despite the Dark Lord’s absence, the summoning of Sensei to Zauberberg remained a mystery. This is when a few adventurers began to assert their dominance over the locals in the narrative.

Their desire was to dominate them, as they saw the adventurers as bringers of peace to the land. As previously stated, the story portrayed the adventurers in a negative manner.

Hence, it is plausible that Sensei’s arrival in the land was not solely for the purpose of defeating the Dark Lord, but rather for another reason. It is possible that he was brought there to address the issue of the other worlders.
