Nobody Wants This Creator Discusses Almost Sadder Ending for Season 1

Erin Foster, the mastermind behind the original romcom series Nobody Wants This, revealed how Season 1 nearly concluded on a much more somber note.

While true crime and murder mysteries have dominated Netflix’s charts, as seen with Monsters Season 2 and The Perfect Couple, the new 10-episode romantic comedy Nobody Wants This has captured the top spot.

Featuring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, the season explores the tumultuous relationship between sex podcaster Joanne and rabbi Noah, embodying a classic will-they/won’t-they dynamic.

Despite Nobody Wants This wrapping up with a quintessential romantic reunion between the couple after their numerous ups and downs, Foster shared with TVLine that she had developed three alternative endings, one of which depicted Joanne asking, “Well, then how’s this going to work?” before the screen faded to black.

She elaborated, “One scenario involves her getting off the bus to find him waiting, while in another, he proclaims, ‘It’s you and me.’ We experimented with various possibilities, and after some deliberation, we settled on the ending we have.”

The optimism surrounding Joanne and Noah’s potential reunion, despite their contrasting backgrounds, is a significant reason why many fans are clamoring for a second season of the show.

Unfortunately, Netflix has yet to officially announce a renewal for Nobody Wants This, but Foster is well-prepared with fresh ideas should the streaming platform reach out.

“I aim to keep the story going from where we left off,” Foster expressed. “We paced Season 1 deliberately slow in their relationship. We didn’t rush things, and I believe that worked to our advantage. I want to maintain that pace in a potential Season 2 and ensure we don’t expedite their journey.”

Foster isn’t the only one eager to see what the future holds for Joanne and Noah; fans have been vocal about their enthusiasm for more content from the series.

“I desperately need everyone to watch Nobody Wants This on Netflix because I really want it to be renewed for Season 2!!!” one fan posted on X/Twitter.

Another fan commented, “Just finished Nobody Wants This Season 1…spectacular, I need 14 more seasons right now.”
