A mother received criticism on TikTok for being intrusive after sharing details of a stranger’s personal text conversation during a heated argument.
Emily, known as ‘emily_mumscence’ on the social media platform, was traveling to Australia with her partner and nine-month-old baby, Max from Canada when the event occurred.
The journey that lasted for 24 hours began with a flight, during which Emily observed the passenger sitting next to her immediately began texting her friends to express her grievances about the baby she was seated next to.
Despite sarcastically stating that the trip was “off to a great start,”Emily shared a video on TikTok about the situation and requested viewers to “wish us luck.”Despite the video gaining viral attention, the response was not as expected by Emily.

Numerous TikTok users flooded the comments section of Emily’s video to criticize the mother for invading a stranger’s privacy by reading their text messages. They also argued that the passenger had every reason to feel angry and upset.
“According to one person, it is evident that the passenger intended to privately discuss the matter, and the parents only became aware due to their nosiness.”Another individual also supported the passenger, commenting, “I completely understand her perspective. Travelling with babies can be challenging during flights.”
One individual commented, “Perhaps it would be best to respect others’ privacy and refrain from reading a stranger’s phone. The sense of entitlement displayed by parents with young children is truly appalling.”
After facing criticism, Emily responded with another video where she addressed the negative comments and stated that “80% of the comments were from people who did not grasp the message of the video.”

She explained that the video was meant to show her pre-existing nerves about taking a long flight. As a parent, she is always on high alert for any noise her child, Max, might make. She added that she had been concerned about potentially bothering other passengers with any disruptions.
“I’m already doing my best to keep him quiet, so please don’t make me feel even more nervous. We will continue to do our best.”
Emily then clarified that the passenger’s behavior was exactly as she had described, as the individual had appeared visibly annoyed and positioned their phone in a way that made it difficult not to see the texts being sent.
However, viewers still believed the passenger’s reaction was “appropriate”and that they would have responded in the same manner, commenting, “Just the number of times you kissed him in this video would have annoyed me on a flight.”
Despite the harsh comments, there were individuals who stood by Emily and advised her to not take them to heart. One person shared, “My heart aches from reading these comments. I apologize for all the negativity you are receiving. Some people will never comprehend, but that’s alright. Just remember that you are loved, seen, and doing incredible things!”
