Not Uzui but Mitsuri deserve more screen time in Demon Slayer season 4 and for a good reason

Despite facing the challenge of adapting the shortest and least stimulating story arc in the series, Demon Slayer season 4 has concluded as a massive success. It has surpassed all expectations and proven itself to be a worthy addition to the anime series, especially after a lackluster previous season.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Ufotable went above and beyond to deliver an incredible season for their fanbase. However, there were some issues that arose throughout the season.

Ufotable’s approach to animation for this training arc involved dedicating nearly one episode to each stage, ensuring that every Hashira received adequate screentime. Unfortunately, Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira, did not receive her fair share and was unable to showcase her abilities.

Demon Slayer season 4: The Lack of Screentime for Mitsuri Robbed the Series of a Perfect Season

Fans may remember that despite not having a major role in the series, Tengen Uzui, the former Sound Hashira, received significant screen time. This strategic use of the character by the animators effectively tapped into fans’ nostalgia and generated excitement for his return.

Despite Tengen Uzui being a prominent character in Demon Slayer season 4, it can be argued that too much screen time was given to him. Considering that Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira, is equally powerful to Gyomei Himejima and trained by Rengoku, it would have been more beneficial to allocate some of Tengen’s screen time to her. This would have showcased her exceptional fighting skills and elevated her character even more.

During this phase of training, the demon hunters were required to focus on increasing their flexibility. The program allowed for a brief montage and a brief conversation between her and Tanjiro, during which they shared a meal. However, the show could have placed greater emphasis on the training stage and delved into the challenges that come with improving mobility.

Additionally, Mitsuri and Obanai Iguro are the sole individuals engaged in a canonical romantic partnership. Obanai’s envy over Mitsuri’s platonic fondness for Tanjiro could have been depicted as an anime-exclusive scene, providing opportunities for all three characters to interact. Furthermore, time could have been dedicated to showcasing the growth of Mitsuri and Obanai’s relationship.

Instead, Tengen Uzui was given a significant amount of screen time, while the unnamed demon hunters who accompanied Tanjiro Kamado received even more screentime than Mitsuri. This is why many fans were dissatisfied with the treatment of Mitsuri in the series.

Her exceptional strength as a Hashira was showcased in the Swordsmith Village arc, and fans were left wanting more as Ufotable could have incorporated some anime-original fight scenes featuring her as well.

Despite this, fans were still excited by the prospect of a new season. However, some fans might argue that Demon Slayer season 4 did not meet their expectations in this aspect, as they feel that Mitsuri was not given enough screentime. If Ufotable had chosen to focus more on her character, it could have led to a flawless season.
