Nothing is planning to release a new smartphone later this month. However, it will not be the Nothing Phone 3, but instead a new Phone 2a model.
A new phone, known as the Phone 2a, was released this year. It is intended to be a more affordable option compared to the Phone 2, while still having reliable specifications. It does not include features such as wireless charging and has fewer LEDs on the back, but its specs remain strong.
The startup based in London has officially announced its plans to release a new model of the Phone 2a, called the Phone 2a Plus. The company confirmed that the unveiling of the new smartphone will take place on 31 July, but has not disclosed any details regarding its specifications.
The teaser posted on X features the phrase “Plus. More. Extra.”The accompanying animation displays grooves reminiscent of the wireless charging coil found in smartphones. This may suggest that Nothing is teasing the inclusion of wireless charging in their upcoming phone.

In the world of smartphones, a device with a “Plus”suffix typically comes with a bigger screen compared to its non-Plus counterpart. This is evident in devices such as the iPhone 15 Plus, which boasts a significantly larger display than the regular iPhone 15, and the Galaxy S24+, which has a bigger screen than the Galaxy S24.
Despite the already large 6.78-inch display on the Phone 2a, increasing it further would be unnecessary. The new smartphone model may instead offer a higher storage capacity and potentially an improved camera sensor.
The Phone 2a boasts a maximum storage capacity of 256GB and is equipped with a dual 50MP + 50MP camera setup on the back. It is powered by the Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset.
Despite the absence of the highly anticipated Nothing Phone 3 this year, it is expected that the upcoming Phone 2a Plus will fill its spot. The CEO of the company has officially announced that the Phone 3 will not be released until 2025. Additionally, in July, Nothing introduced the affordable CMF Phone 1 as an alternative.
